Title: Kinship
Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Hyuuga Neji, Hyuuga Hinata
Theme: Stinger

Small feet taking him through the gardens, it didn't take Neji long to find the sound of the sobs he had heard. Granted, he wasn't really old enough at 6 to necessarily know what made girls cry, but he certainly recognized the sound of one, and had enough sense to know that when girls DID cry, it likely meant that something was wrong.

In this case, the source of the crying turned out -- not surprisingly -- to be his cousin, curled up beneath a butterfly bush, cradling one little hand in the other. The source of the problem made itself readily apparent as she noted his arrival, looking up at him with large, tear-filled white eyes and held out one reddened finger to him.

A bee sting, his mind supplied for him, logical and to-the-point even at so young of an age, he could even still see the stinger embedded in the center of the red mark. Plopping down on the ground beside her, he wordlessly took her hand, studying it.

"Hinata-sama, you shouldn't try to hold bees like that. They'll just sting you."

The girl answered with a sniffle, lower lip still trembling in an attempt to avoid crying anymore in front of her beloved cousin. Neji didn't cry. He was always strong and brave, and he'd think her a coward if he saw her crying over something as little as a bee sting.

Reaching into his pocket, Neji pulled out a shuriken, holding her smaller hand in his and gently scraping the edge of the metal blade against her skin, the friction dislodging the small bit of darkness still embedded in her flesh.

"I need to get the stinger out, otherwise it will keep injecting venom into your finger, and it will only hurt more. Please hold still, Hinata-sama."

To her credit, the Hyuuga heiress managed to bite her lip and hold back the whimpers as her cousin pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket, wrapping it around the injured finger. A quick tie and it was done, Neji standing up and extending his hand to her.

"Let's go, Hinata-sama. It's almost lunchtime."
