Silent Symphony - SakuLee

OK, so my writing muse was going haywire. Someone sent me this totally adorable SakuLee fanart and I just HAD to write something SakuLee and I had no theme. Cue frenzied panicking. As in, I would rather have writer's BLOCK the have that NEED to write and not know WHAT to write. Anyway... Theme for this was "music", supplied by the lovely serika_san.

SakuLee Drabble/shortfic.

Title: Silent Symphony
Fandom: Naruto
Pairing: SakuLee (Lee's POV)
Rating: G (nothing objectionable)
Summary: They always asked him why he watched her, when she never noticed him...

Every day, he watches her. And every day, they ask him why. Why he sits so earnestly, gaze and countenance focused solely on this one spark of beauty and perfection, an island of softness among the sea of blood and harshness that is the world they inhabit. For she, aloft on her pedestal, does not see him. Instead, she casts jade-hued eyes skyward and downward, searching for the dark wings of despair and vengeance that drive the hopes and ambitions of the one for whom she holds a flickering candle. The angel of darkness to whom she has given her heart.
They say he is a fool. That he wastes his life, pining away for something that shall never be within his reach. Afterall, as his team-mate often used to tell him, a dropout will always be a dropout, and one without hope for notice and acknowledgement has no place to reach for those far-shining stars that rest within her eyes and sparkle in her hair.
He says it is simple, that he loves her and because of that love that time nor disinterest nor space will change the feelings he carries. But perhaps it is more. Perhaps it is also the steadfast belief he holds in himself that if he can only persevere, only hold on a bit longer. That if wishes can be made real, that it is truly a blessing for him to simply be within her presence. And even in the face of their sighs and their careful and gentle notes of reality and it’s pain and sharpness, he holds on.
He does it for the music. But it is not any sort of music that they could hear. Because rather then a song or melody, she herself is music to him. Every move poetry, every glance and smile lyrical, every step and graceful flourish of motion is a note of pure music to the eyes of the boy who watches her each day. The sway of her hips, the soft brush of petal-hued tresses as the breeze caresses them. Even her shaded jade eyes have a sonata all of their own, a sad and haunting melody of sound and whispers that reaches out to him and caresses the depths of his soul every time those green orbs meet his own. It’s a song that Rock Lee has listened to for a long while. A song that he knows no other can hear, though not because Sakura hides it. No, it is because Sakura herself IS the song, and Rock Lee is a conniseur of music when it comes to the pink-haired goddess who haunts his dreams. Perfection incarnate, his blooming flower, spot of soft colour against a world of greys and blood-reds.
And he wants so desperately to share in that timeless ambiance of sound and harmony that issues forth from every fiber of Sakura’s being like an aura of emotional turmoil. Wants to weave and mesh his own song into the folds, creating a harmony, a symphony of feeling and life that he feels that only she can grant him. And that, though he can’t explain it well to those who ask, is the reason why he keeps watching her. Listening to her. Hoping against all hopes and downfalls that the day will come when the shade of sorrow will lift from her eyes and she will look on HIM with the same soft longing lonliness and tenderness that she reserves only for the lone gateway that leads to roads untraveled by her.
And that is why, no matter how long it takes, he waits. Waits and dreams, knowing that even though she may never share his feelings, she also will never find another who will see her in the way that he does. Because the music, for Lee, is always there. Even amidst the silence of heartache.
