A lot of folks are commenting that the drm is going to turn a lot of users away from taking advantage of it, but I doubt the vast majority of listeners really care all that much. That's as long as emerging artists get to use the network... Who issues this DRM and how can it be applied?

my impression was that indy artists could indeed use the network, but as for the drm, I'm not sure. it definitely has something to do with what mp3 players you can use the files with (obviously there is another agenda there as well). maybe there is a sound quality issue as well?

That's the thing, the article leaves us with a lot of "ifs" and it all relates too two details - The WWW of DRMs and Who gets to use this P2P network? Issues that feel very anti-indie to me ( ... )

And iTunes, which I used to live by, would only work with iPods or up to 5 distinct PCs. When my iPod died I found a much better and cheaper non-mac MP3 player and noticed I could not play my files with it. DRMs are not really an issue until you see weird limitations like these.
