Hrim Schola was very short for me today, but rather satisfying.

I taught spinning, and I think I need to rehearse it more, but one of my students was palegreyminion's mother, who is both lovely and keen to learn. I think she'll have a great time with it.

I was finally able to do something I've been wanting to do for years: take a class on tablet weaving. I wish ( Read more... )

Yippee! That is awesome! I am so pleased. Do you mind if I share this with Anastasia and Fionnghuala? Neither are on LJ, and I know they'd both be delighted to see what you've already done.

Not at all; I'll unlock it. Oh wait, it is unlocked.

Truth be told, this isn't the first time I've woven. I learned to weave on an inkle loom when I was 10 or 11, and warped and wove on a tabletop harness loom in middle school. I've always wished I could do more. I want to weave on a big floor loom, but I'll probably never get to. The studio I learned at is still open. I don't know if you've ever been to Fiber Loft in Harvard, but the owner, Reba, taught me, and it's now a lovely yarn shop as well as a weaving studio.

This will help me achieve my extremely long-term goal of making a set of Viking clothing from the skin out, including trim and shoes. The only bits I don't want to make are the metal bits... not sure about the beads. This is a start, though.

I have supplies to make glass beads and Bill can make any metal bits for you. It wouldn't be all hand made by you, though, if that is your goal.

Take a picture of your loom warped so you can see how to set it up this way. It will come in very handy later.

That looks totally awesome. I am very excited that you took a class and now we can matter about yet more string.

Woot.
