Ironically The Vegetarian Society, founded in 1847, says that the word “vegetarian” is derived from the Latin word vegetus meaning lively or vigorous

speaking as an unrepentant carnivore who lives with a veggie, there isnt any particular hassle associated with cooking 2 meals. Anything done in the oven just gets done on separate shelves, or dishes, grill can be used for both at the same time by clever use of foil "boats", and an extra pan on the hob isnt a major inconvenience.

Veggie options of most things are indeed available. I eat them from time to time, although I generally prefer the real thing.

With vegetarianism being more common these days, most people are quite happy to provide an alternative, you may find its easier when guesting to simply go for a veggie option than discuss whether the food is ethically sourced though.

As for arguing with people to justify the choice, simply dont. As Alice can vouch for, a simple statement that this is what you choose to eat, if they dont like it they arent obliged to join in, will normally shut most people down before they have a change to get going.
