What on Earth am I doing here? Taking liberties with one's person like this is extremely rude.

...Even if I have shown up in a rather nice library. I'd still appreciate knowing what's going on. I have - you know, responsibilities to get back to. As soon as I finish this book.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the why, but what book has you so interested?

Oh, erm, several of them, really. But there's one here on pre-Elizabethan playwrights that's unexpectedly engrossing. Perhaps I've been underselling the fifteenth century...

Well, you wouldn't be the only one. People seem to think the world didn't exist between the renaissance and the Roman period.

Of course it did, it just wasn't very lively. But it did see the invention of the printing press, for example, so it wasn't all bad.

... Where have you been?

I've been in my shop, of course - which is where I should be right now. Not that I don't appreciate this rehabilitation business, but it was all quite abrupt.

Has someone modified your memory?

Why, I - I think I'd notice that sort of thing! Honestly!

Az. Bro. We need to talk.

[starts from his book, turning toward him] Gabriel, would you please not--

[Pause. There's a moment as his indignity furrows into a frown.] For some reason you feel like the wrong Gabriel.

[THERE IS A MOMENT WHERE GABRIEL IS ALL HOPEFUL AND THEN... Way to knock the wind out of his sails.

...Now excuse him while he takes it back BY GETTING ALL UP IN YOUR PERSONAL SPACE.]

Oh, I'm the right one. You just haven't figured that out yet. Did you hit your head while you were having your little Barge siesta?

I - no, I didn't, [he answers, still frowning. He's stuck between wanting to cover his tracks and act like a good little servant of Heaven, as he usually would when his superior came to visit (which was not often) - and, on the other hand, being absolutely peeved. But there's something, just something, nagging at him that doesn't seem quite right...]

I don't even know what the Barge is. Do you mean to say we're on a ship? Kind of an odd place for a prison, if you ask me.

Yes, I have forgotten, but I haven't forgotten that for some reason I don't like you.

Welcome back! I'm afraid you have something we call Barge amnesia, and you have been or are going to be hit with a large amount of people who know you but whom you don't know. My advice? Give it a few minutes and read your old posts; it should help.

I'm Martha, by the way, I'm a Doctor in the infirmary. I know the Doctor will be very glad to have you back.

Well, that was the most helpful comment by far, thank you, my dear. I believe I will do just that.

Were we well acquainted, then, before all this?

Of course, Aziraphale, it's what I'm here for.

And yes, we were friends and had tea. I've got some if you want a crash barge course, or if you just want to not think about it.

I don't think sticking my head in the sand would do me much good; I'd love some tea.
