I almost bought the Lovers Tarot just a few weeks ago in an American Bookshop! It was on a bargain (although it was not as cheap as you bought it). I did not buy it and regret it, but only because of the book (there are no pictures on the Minors). I have the Majors only version.
I looked at a few pages in the Majors section of the book. I don't think you're missing much. While it's nice to have the book to go with the deck, at times they do get repetitive once you've read a bunch of deck companion books. I don't feel that way about the book accompanying the Jane Austen Tarot.
This is my first acquaintance with The Lovers Tarot. The unillustrated pips are a shame. Oh, but there is the Tarot Court and the Aces! One of the things I'll be doing in my journal when I get to scanning is creating some Majors only spreads or simply asking questions that would best relate to the Major Arcana.
I have people who check in and don't comment and especially for the beginning readers who only come in contact with the decks they see at the bookstore, it's nice to know how much else there is beyond the most commercial offerings.
