Clark Kent paused in his flight over the Eastern seaboard. After witnessing the conversation between Lois and Richard earlier that evening, he had been working non-stop in a (somewhat futile) attempt to take his mind off of what he had heard. He had stopped a bank robbery, a convenience store hold up, and a typhoon. He had saved a window washer

LMAO. That reminds me of that line (which I think was posted on World's Finest?) about how Bruce threatened to kill Dick for slashing him with Clark. Hehe. But now that I know of his plans, hopefully I'll be able to resist his machinations better ... after all, I wouldn't want Batman to spoil all the fun just because he doesn't know what's good for him. :-P
But anyway, thank you for reading, and for taking the time to leave a comment!

Or maybe that's just me. lol
Hehe ... that's definitely me, too. So at least there's two of us!

I think both POVs work very well here, and I wouldn't be at all worried about your Batman--I love all the little workaholic touches ("only three days without sleep, why was he so tired?" heee), and the simmering passion toward justice, toward people, toward cities, toward Clark that you can see just under the impassive surface.
Love the wayward turtles. One of the fun thigs about Superman is imagining all the extremely tiny little good things he does, and the imagine of him swooping down to snatch a turtle from certain death just delighted me no end.
And it's a perfect Batman go down to Metropolis to keep order after Superman is hurt--perfectly in character for him and for their relationship as it stands in this story.
But now that he could see the crowds with their candles and their signs, and Metropolis General Hospital beyond that-now he knew that he hadn’t come here to look after Clark’s city. He had come here to look after Clark.*purrs happily ( ... )

It is fun! I love seeing his powers put to use on a smaller scale. And with his record of getting cats out of trees, I always get a kick out of imagining him rescuing different animals ... although with your recent addition of his childhood cowphobia to fanon, I wonder what he would do if someone's cow were in danger? lol

Yay, I'm glad to hear this worked! That was actually one of the things I was worrying about being OOC, since Batman is so "Gotham is my city, I belong in Gotham!" But I eventually decided that his desire to protect people (and his loyalty to Clark) would win out over his territorialism, at least during major disasters.
Again, love the banked passion, the fire under the--I'd call it a "facade" of impassivity, but it's not at all, it's his ( ... )

The reassurance is much much much appreciated ... thank you! Bruce just doesn't speak to me for some reason ...
Batman really is not that hard to write, in some ways, because he's a common trope in most slashy fandoms, the repressed passionate guy, the "ice" in "fire and ice." As long as you're near there he reads just fine, and your version is just wonderful, I'm very fond of him already.
And I love your icon so, so, so much!

Glad you like it, although I can't take credit for it. ^_^ I got it from jadeblood, and now that I've found it, I think it might be my default icon forever! If only I had a real life version of it, so that people knew what they were getting into when they interact with me. :-P

Heh. I love that Bruce can almost always make it seem that whatever other "mistake" Superman made, talking to him tops it.
This was very nice and very well done. I enjoyed the trek to the hospital and the imagery you use of Metropolis as bright even at night, even after an earthquake, even with Superman in the hospital.
I look forward to reading more.

LOL. Yeah, I don't think their bickering will ever cease to amuse me ...

I actually had to think about that, because after five years without Superman, you'd think Metropolis would've degenerated a bit. But it was still so pretty and sparkly in the movie, I decided it must be pretty resilient. :)
Anyway, thank you for commenting! I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. :)

YES!! YES, exactly that, yes. Thank you. That's all I hav ever wanted to say in my rewrite of Superman returns, but I never found such on-spot words and reasoning. Perfect. I love your Bruce, taking care of everything while Clark was away, being sleepless, being in Metropolis out of habit. Just... I adore this. I really hope to see more from you and, of course, the second part of this. I still have to write my hospital scene 2 chapters from my current one, and I need inspiration ( ... )

But, but, but ... you did say that! I have to confess ... *looks guilty* ... I read your fic about a week before writing this (and I still have to comment on it *looks even more guilty*), and I was heavily influenced by what you did with Bruce (actually, I should probably be crediting you for inspiration *runs off and does that ( ... )

Lol, Bruce moving on after Clark leaves for five years should be fanon. I love Jen's Bruce too because he felt compelled by Superman's leave to be his own hero. My Bruce is just trying harder, which might or might not be healthy, but your Bruce? He's very, very in character, the grouchy golden hearted grouch I love with all my heart, and much more to the point. You really wrapped it up, and yes, I am waiting greedily for your hospital scene, though your rendition of the SR has already inspired me. I really liked your narrative and your characterizations. I want them! they are so shiny! That's the great thing about sharing the boys, we can all play with them :)

Jen's Bruce is awesome. He's so ... sunny! And cuddly! And yet, he's still Batman! It's amazing. I don't think I'll ever have the guts to write him that happy, but I love reading him that way. :)
Your Bruce is fantastic, too, though ... he's so zen! He's like, the Buddha meets Batman meets the world's greatest archetypal friend ever. He's very mature, and well-adjusted ... in other words, he amazes me, too!

So so true. They are the world's finest (and sexiest) toys. ^_^
