Apparently I will do anything (including write Snape/Lucius/Voldemort with mpreg and karaoke) to keep from finishing my Remus/Neville virgin fic
( Read more... )
Whenever I am stuck and under a deadline, I scrap and start over. Because sometimes a new scenario will flow where an old one won't. If worse comes to worst, I think of a song or a piece of poetry for inspiration, or even a painting, and I go with it. Sometimes if you can't do plot you can do scene, if you know what I mean?
So I might do something like... Remus, Neville, and.... oh, say "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell. Or Remus, Neville, and Starry Night by Van Gogh. Or Remus, Neville, and... "A Passionate Shepherd to His Love". But that's just me. :D
I try to pick a phrase, a kink, an image or whatever out of the blue. Perhaps you should get away from the computer, even if just for half an hour. I get great burst of inspiration while walking my dog sometimes. And I second the starting over idea.
I can't speak as to being stuck on a fic near a deadline, but I have deadlines all over the place with my work writing. In case they transfer and would be helpful, the three things that work best for me when I'm stuck on work writing are: 1) a walk 2) a long shower, and 3) chocolate. In general, pretty much anything else that helps me relax and that occupies the superficial (and deadline-obsessed) level of my mind for a few minutes so my subconscious can get busy working around the block helps. Good luck!
Apologies for dropping in uninvited, but you helped me out earlier today at HP100, and I ran across this via the Daily Snitch and thought I'd try to offer some moral support, at least. (Um, besides which, I really want to see Snape singing karaoke)... :)
Something I've found occasionally helps me is, take a look at everything you want or need to include in the story, and pick one detail that you think will come easily, even if it's something very small and insignificant. If you can get started writing *something,* sometimes the rest will fall into place on its own.
Nah, there's no such thing as uninvited around here. I've actually been admiring your drabbles and considering friending you for a couple days now (which I will do now, if that's ok with you).
Thanks for the suggestion. It is a useful tip. Often I'll sketch out the path of a fic in ideas and then fill in just that way.
(Picks self up floor, after laughing right out of chair at karaoke!Snape!)
Re: friending, go right ahead. I'm flattered, and thank you. :) I'll friend you too, if I may, as soon as I've finished this image search (you have any idea how hard it is to find a *good* image of movie-Lily?) O.O
