This is the thing. Blocking the thepiratebay.org and its trackers is about as much use against those wanting to access them as a 'Keep Off the Grass' sign is against a swarm of bees.
There are a hundred web proxies out there that will give Eircom users access to the TPB torrent database. Then DHT and PEX will take care of finding peers without access to the trackers. Might take longer to get started but the results are the same.
At first you may think 'Oh my god. No more Hanna Montanna for me!' but indeed you can circumvent this ban.
The "record industry" or BMI, doesn't know that, or indeed if they do they won't care because the ignorant masses will be back to buying legitimate goods.
They will improve sales where it counts.
Now. Where they to do the same to Greenpeace... they'd fucking love it because it would cause an outrage.
If they're still thinking that downloads equal lost sales, that kids are going to start buying their music again just because TBP is down, I think they're in for a surprise. And it will have nothing to do with circumvention...
