I just spent most of my powers of writing up my day emailing my parents (short version: stress of whole France thing manifesting itself in paranoia about bedbugs, following my discovery of a carpet beetle larva but no evidence so far of actual bedbugs), but I must just say here that I've got my fridge working! It was never not working, actually. ( Read more... )

Cheese is made for sitting out. It's a great way of preserving milk, after all - same with yogurt. I wouldn't eat it if it has a funky smell or obvious mold growing on it (er, unless it's a cheese that's meant to have a funky smell and mold growing on it!) but otherwise, it's probably fine.

Hmm, Camembert is definitely supposed to have a funky smell, and it does... more noticeably now that it's in the fridge, where it's going to remain until I come to a final decision about it. But you're right, it probably hasn't hurt it, especially since I hadn't opened it yet, and it's still festering away (like it's supposed to be) inside its rind.

Your Camembert is going to be fine, don't worry. It's better to keep it in the refrigerator, but it's no big deal if it stays at room temperature for a day or two, as long as it's not under the sun during the warmest days of summer.

I'm discovering your journal and I enjoy reading it. From what I read so far, it seems that you arrived in France recently. A warm welcome to you. I hope you enjoy your stay.
