Heh, we read many of the same books. (Although I am not a fan of big, epic, high fantasy novels, as it happens). I actually liked this book pretty well, though I perhaps was reading it in ideal conditions - a long, hot, hot weekend (well, four days) spent camping out at my grandparents' old house (sans furniture, radios, television, cell phone reception, or internet) and it was my only entertainment in between bouts of cleaning, sanding, painting, and other bits of manual labor ( ... )

Hmmm, I think my frame of mind may also have impacted my experience of the book as I feel a need for action and movement and it wasn't quite the right book for that - initially.

I have read some good things about the other books so I am keen to give them a try :)
