Oh, I think you're going to like the next book. I remember thinking that books four and five were where the world (and the writing) really started clicking.

And yes, my god, this series and the harry whump. Seriously giving Spider-Man a run for his money, relatively speaking, don't you think?

You are just chock full of things I needed to know tonight :)

I thought fangirls were the biggest whumpers and it seems I am wrong. I love me some Spidey whump but oh boy, Harry gets beaten up - a lot! *loves it*

Yay for the next books! *resists the kindle weakly*

*pokes you* Were you alluding to spidey inspiration for Harry too? *points at faithburkes comment* because if so... awesome!! :)

I think you might like Book #4. That one can be read almost as a stand-alone, and if I'm not mistaken that's the first book of the series that I picked up and made me go back and read the books in order LOL

Less whump? NEVER! But I agree that Grave Peril seems to have ten plots going on at the same time.

Actually, first person POV usually doesn't work for me as well. I have rarely find a first person story (book, fanfic, etc) that I truly enjoy, but Jim Butcher seems to be the exception.

I hope Jim Butcher remains the exception for me too, as I do like the stories (very much!) but not the POV disconnects. Yay for book 4!! And yay for more whumpe! *pats Harry*

Thanks!

Some things that might help the experience: Books one, two and three of the Dresden Files were all written as class assignments while he was a student in a writing program. That's at least part of the reason for some of his need to reestablish the basic details of the universe. Book four (Summer Knight) goes a little easier on the physical whump, but poor Harry still gets put through the emotional wringer. And Summer Knight is the first one he wrote that isn't a class assignment. It's one of the better stories.

So desperately trying to avoid spoilers . . .

Also, Harry Dresden was strongly inspired by Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Faithburke you are a veritable mine of wonderful information *smishes you*

The context certainly does help and I look forward to book four even more then! Altho, in beta in me wonders why he didn't 'brush up' the first three books a little more before publishing... but I suppose he didn't know there would be interest, and.. yeah, I get it too.

I appreciate the non-spoilering :)

Peter Parker/Spiderman inspiration, really? *ponders* Surely not just on the whump side? *ponders more*

That's pretty much word of Butcher, from some interview. If you ever get the chance to look at the Dresden graphic novels, he says in the notes that he very much wanted Harry to resemble Peter Parker when they were designing the look of the character.

You need to hurry and read, because book 14 is out at the end of the month! Strike that, you won't enjoy them as much, but I am very much looking forward to that. I am also looking forward to when you get through Changes.

Really? (I seem to be saying that a lot) but wow and interesting.

I probably won't be hurrying through them - the to_read list is long and I want to savour them. But book number 4 is burning its way to the top :)

Thanks, dear
