Seven; [Voice]

May 08, 2010 18:10

[And here is a very tired-sounding voice echoing across the journal and into your household. Ramirez doesn't particularly enjoy using the things for initiating conversation, but considering Fina's state at the moment, he figured he should at least alert any of her companions for her. Especially after that worrisome video feed that was shown not ( Read more... )

I am. [He pauses.] One of Fina's friends, I mean.

In what way is she ill? [His voice is strained. Very strained. Clearly he wants to ask more.]

[Merlin takes a moment to digest that information; in truth, he feels sorry for the man. He has often worried about what it will be like to go home and never see Fina again--to forget her. It worries him.]

I'm...oh, that's very unfortunate.

It is. But there's little point in dwelling on it. She appeared to have found a way to be happy despite my absence. That's all I can ask.

[Under normal circumstance despite my absence probably would have sounded incredibly arrogant. But when you, as the sole companion of a young child, are called upon to tell her you have leave on a dangerous mission with no way of knowing when you will return, well...a person begins to wonder if that may have caused some lasting damage.]

Vyse does seem to make her rather happy.

[He completely misunderstands your intention, Ramirez. He mistakes you for another suitor--not maliciously, though; after all, Fina's happiness is paramount.]

[He would be rather horrified to know this, actually. If the Elders' intention when creating a male and female child was for them to continue the Silvite race together, then they had been sorely mistaken; Ramirez never could look at her as that of a potential bride. Even now, all he sees is that same small child who constantly tugged at his sleeves.

But, my dear boy, what is of this talk of Vyse?]

I'm sure you make her happy as well, Merlin.

[Merlin would probably be equally horrified to learn that his feelings are so transparent. So used to easily tricking Arthur, the warlock believes his sneaky skills are formidable.]

She does seem to appreciate my company. [A small (contented) sigh.] I'm grateful for that.

[Incredibly transparent, my dear.]

You certainly do seem so.

[He sounds amused, but there might be a more severe underlying tone if Merlin listens close. Nothing personal, you seem like a fine gentleman to him; you're just dealing with the stereotypical big brother figure.]

[He doesn't seem to notice; after all, severity is usually much more pronounced when Merlin usually encounters it. Arthur Pendragon is not subtle at all.]

I don't suppose she mentioned the--ahh--experiment to you?

Not yet. Why don't you elaborate?

[This is not a request.]

[He filters the conversation for the privacy of everyone involved.]

You know how there are experiments, yes?

Of course.

There was one quite recently that created some...feelings. Feelings that weren't there, before. It must have been a very dark piece of sorcery to play with people's emotions in that way.

Feelings.

[...He has a hunch where this is going.]

How long did it last?

A week.

Yes, only a week.

[For her. Merlin sighs.] It was very chaotic for many in the village, I believe.
