Veronica Mars: End of the Year Accolades - A Summary

Jan 01, 2006 17:49

Many of the television critics' Best of 2005 lists have included my favorite show, Veronica Mars.  I thought I'd make a little summary of all the lovely press the series is getting this month.  Now, if only this would translate to higher ratings.

praise. It is unusual for a show in its sopohomore year to get such consistent acclaim. I love this season so I am glad I am not alone. Hope you share this with our group. Thanks for taking the time compile it.

It is nice to see so much praise, particularly when I'm enjoying the show so much this season. I didn't follow the show news as closely at the end of 2004, so I'm not sure how it fared then, with only a few months on the air. I think it at least made EW's list last year.

I'll be sure to share it with the group, probably tomorrow. I've been scrambling around trying to figure out how this Live Journal thing works. And hunting down pretty icons. :)

Yes, VM made the Top 10 list at EW last year. The only shows to make EW's Top 10 list for both 2004 and 2005 are:

Lost
Arrested Development
Veronica Mars
Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel

I think VM also made the Top 10 list at TV Guide for the last two years, but I don't have last year's list handy. But only episodes through 1.10 would have been eligible for the 2004 lists. The second half of season one aired during 2005, so it made more lists this year.

Thanks for confirming the repeat on the EW list. I was pretty sure I remembered it being there. Nice to know I didn't imagine it. I thought it was on TV Guide's list, too, but I haven't been able to find anything on it.

Out of curiosity, I skimmed through some old forum posts for 2004 mentions. In addition to being #8 on EW's list, it was also included on the 2004 lists at Ain't It Cool (#9), The Boston Phoenix (#6), the Chicago Tribune, L.A. Weekly, MSN, and The Village Voice.

Plus, Kristen Bell's appearance at #25 on USA Today's Pop Candy Top People of the year list is also a repeat. She was at #57 in 2004.

And as you mentioned, this was with only 10 episodes on the air. Fairly impressive.
