Captain Jack Harkness Character Analysis/Picspam (Cyberwoman)
Okay, here's part 4! Spoilers for Cyberwoman. Caps from The Institute.
It's good to see Jack having a bit of fun. But I guess this was the "calm before the storm" thing. He also did his "Whatever" hand gesture! :P Anyway it is clear to see that Jack and the others do take Ianto for granted, Jack just threw the ball at him and they didn't invite him along for drinks!
Jack really does look like he's having a good time with his friends, and again Ianto seems to be the furthest from what any of them are thinking of.
Jack's telling another of his amusing stories. Again happy, without Ianto. All this is obviously showing how Ianto is taken for granted and is not respected enough.
And um...yeah, this is just here for the pretty! :D
Awww! But that is undermined by the fact that Ianto is seen only as the one who works "coffee magic", and not as a full member of the team.
"Ianto I need to hear those beautiful Welsh vowels"
Jack still flirts to get what he wants, but I have noticed Ianto is the only member of Torchwood that Jack flirts with, really.
Jack's scared now. Gwen's about to be upgraded!
Jack is really angry now, I'm guessing he's tired of being betrayed by people he thought were friends. Would he really have shot Ianto? I'm not quite sure, but I like to think he wouldn't.
Jack blatantly avoids Ianto's question of if he ever loved someone. He also talks about how one tiny decision can cause "mass slaughter". He knows this, especially with the "Empty Child Syndrome".
"You're living in my basement, fine, you're drainng my power, that's okay. But now you're hurting my friends. This stops now"
Jack doesn't really care that his home has been invaded, he really cares for the safety of his friends. This proves his loyalty and his real affection for his friends.
Oh noes! Jack's been deleted. But he's just going to jump back up again, so it's sort of pointless to keep doing it. And so Lisa runs off after Owen and Gwen. So what was Jack's plan exactly? Die a few times so Owen, Gwen and Tosh will be safe? Well it didn't really work, now, did it Jack? Anything could happen in those few minutes you're down.
Jack gives Ianto the kiss of life. So was Ianto dead, dying, or just didn't have enough energy to regain conciousness? Well, whatever it was, Jack's determined to make the most of the oppertunity.
If all else fails, feed the threat to the pterodactal. Jack does apologise to Ianto, but he does seem quite ruthless.
That wrist computer does everything! It shows holograms, opens things and unleashes the pterodactal!
"If she's still alive, you execute her, or I'll execute you both"
Again I wonder, would Jack do it? He is very intimidating, and seems very cold, almost emotionless. Of course he is trying to keep everyone safe, but what lengths will he go to? And also note Ianto's line "You're the biggest monster there is". Ouch. I'm guessing that line is what made Jack give Ianto some time. I think Jack is afraid of becoming a monster because of how he has been affected by recent events.
Okay, so Lisa's brain was inside the pizza girl, so was Lisa back to her normal self? Was she sorry for what she did? It didn't seem to matter to Jack, she killed people and now must pay the price. He seems all about justice now.
Jack acknowledges the fact that maybe killing her was not the best thing to do, but it was what he felt had to be done to ensure the safety of everyone else.
But he seems to forgive Ianto, he knows he was doing it for love. He admits to Gwen he might have killed Ianto, and evades answering if he would have killed her if she had taken Ianto's side. He doesn't want to even think about being betrayed again, or about having to make such difficult decisions again.
"Have you ever loved someone that much?"
Again Jack avoids answering this. Would Jack go that far to save someone he loved? Or would he just have come to terms that there was no coming back from being upgraded? Also notice he seems to have a cut lip from Ianto punching him. So is it only fatal wounds that heal? Jack used to be all about living life to the full, but now he's immortal, he feels like there's nothing to live for. And so just for a moment he thought maybe he could die, and he felt so alive. Awwww, poor Jack!
