I wondered how you would instigate the relationship, I've read a few where the Doctor is confused by his feelings and wonders what is happening; I have to say I prefer the state of mind in which your Doctor handles his feelings. A particular scene stands out where he starts almost organising a date and calls himself pathetic.
Ianto was written to a tee, his caring, normal self, and yet not super human. He gets angry and deals with it, but doesn't break down under all of the pressure.
Jack was amazing in this, almost like a different person but yet, it was still so Jack.
I have enjoyed reading this so much.
Thank you so, so much for writing.

I'm glad to hear you liked Ianto, in particular. The truth is that I have now seen a whole six episodes of Torchwood, so I'm going almost entirely off of fanon with him. But I love fanon!Ianto dearly - he may in fact be my favorite of the three here.

I WAS JOKING ABOUT THE FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER!!! Sheesh, woman, you don't have to do every crazy thing I suggest! ;)
This was beautiful. I love everything about it. The Doctor's insecurities, Jack's brokenness, Ianto's doubts, and Martha's extreme awesomeness.
I loved the scene at the end, too - the carefulness, the dread - after hundreds of years, things are not just going to be easy because he loves him.
So, did I hear you say there was a sequel? (Other than the flu!Doctor one, that is.)

I'm glad you liked it! I sure liked writing it.
At this point there are two sequels. I wrote the flu!Ianto story, because it actually sort of sets up where they are at the beginning of Teh Big Sequel. That should get posted . . . well, I'll probably wait a couple days, to give people a chance to read this one, but it's beta'd and ready for editing. Teh Big Sequel is roughed out, but it needs a lot of work. It's a lot more complicated than this one. It's on the docket for August, but so are several other things, so we'll just have to see.

It is, I think, for these characters (just as it is in life, which makes this fandom so appealing) so fucking hard to just accept affection, and they do, and it is good.
Simple story, well-executed that packs a lot of punch. Have gone off to read your pre-written sequel already, and would love to see more of these three, possibly negotiating the living situation/househunitng issue.

There is a novella-length sequel roughed out. It needs a TON of work and probably ten thousand more words and I'm avoiding thinking about it altogether right now, so God knows when it will be done. But the living situation/house hunting issue will most definitely be addressed at some length. (There is also a much shorter Ianto-POV sequel that I'll probably post later this week, and it addresses it as well, as set-up for the longer story.)

No idea when the sequel will be posted. It's roughed out but so far from finished that I'm just avoiding thinking about it altogether right now.

And you solved the puzzle for me on Jack/Doctor/Ianto. I've read it before and could never get into the pairing, and I think you hit what I didn't know I needed -- for The Doctor to fall for Ianto first. (Somehow it evens things out in my mind better, since Jack's been in the love with the Doctor since long before Torchwood.)
I liked how messed up everyone was after what they'd been through, and how they didn't get fixed right away. and yay Martha!

It's funny, when I wrote "The Right Touch" months ago, I had the idea that Ianto and the Doctor had decided to "share" Jack and gradually developed a relationship of their own - and then I started writing this and realized that wasn't what happened at all. It definitely changes the dynamic (so much so that I had to go back and rewrite bits of the earlier story to make it fit with this one).
Yay Martha, indeed. I loved writing her bits.
