Bison Conspiracy! (That would be a great band name.)

From a friend's facebook posting, I have a highly entertaining batshit theory written by Krayton Kerns, an actual current member of the Montana House of Representatives.  It features not only the usual right-wing gripes about big government and liberals destroying Christianity in the schools, but also such creative elements as bison and Walt Disney ( Read more... )

I read the article and my reaction can most accurately be described by your choice of mood ;)

I'm sorry you have to deal with such high temperatures. It's very hot here as well, although not as hot, and I'm constantly grumpy and miserable. Winter is my fave season and I hate this heat so much...

I personally live in one of the only corners of the US that has pleasant, not too hot weather right now. However, I have family and friends stuck in some of the miserable places. My sympathies about your unpleasant summer weather! I hope you have a cool place to hide from the heat.

Wow. That is almost beautiful in its insanity. Do I laugh? Cry? Both at the same time? If he's not sure exactly how Disney is relevant, why is he even bringing him up?

I'm amusing myself with the fact that any Jr High teacher, upon receiving this from a student, would despair.

(also: Hi!)

You have to be impressed by the creativity!

This sounds like the sort of thing you'd hear a crazy politician spouting in a comedy, but the effect in reality isn't quite so purely amusing.

I tried to read that, but at some point it all dissolved into "Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo," and that always confuses me.

Going back to reread, um, apparently earth-based religions are un-American? And I didn't realize Bambi was about bison. They just looked so much like deer. What with the antlers and stuff.

(Also, lol, Disney is an evil environmentalist. I really like going to Disney World, but it is one of the most human-created outdoor environments I have ever been in. Venice and the Vegas strip are the only others that outdo it.)

Of course earth-based religions are un-American! Our founding fathers and Jesus clearly intended this to be a Christian nation. Duh. And Bambi is clearly just part of a much larger conspiracy to create the illusion that animals have some worth other than as food sources.

I'm in total agreement about Disney theme parks being so heavily human-controlled. You can go indoors to go on a boat ride, for crying out loud.

I feel like, um, practitioners of various Native American religions might have something to say to that? Also practitioners of imported earth-based traditions like African/Christian syncretic religions and some Neo-Pagan religions, but let's face it, those are only as American as Christianity. (I suppose an argument could be made for the African syncretics being American. Those are kind of the religious equivalent of jazz and the blues ( ... )

What gets me is that this guy is a veterinarian. I wonder if he espouses his views on the evils of anthropomorphism every time a client brings in their darling dog or cat.

(perhaps he only treats livestock. shrug)
