I read a fascinating blog post by nightsky (ellipticcurve  on LJ) about the costuming trend for femme!Doctors and what it might mean.  I was a big fan of the femme!Doctor costumes I saw at the last few cons I went to, especially this latest Gallifrey, but couldn't really articulate why I loved them aside from the beauty of many of the costumes, the playfulness ( Read more... )

I quite enjoyed the sign by the awesome older lady.

I once read a story where Donna was 11, it was on teaspoon, and if I find it, I'll put the title and author in a reply here.

That lady in the photo rocks my socks. I'm not surprised that a story with Donna as 11 exists. Donna is just that awesome.

I would love to see Helena Bonham Carter as a female Doctor! She'd be an inspired choice! :D

Huh! Neat article, and of interest to me, since I'm getting into the idea of crossplay costuming for coms. In my case, it's because I've never been thrilled with the idea of trying to dress like female characters I don't resemble in the slightest; my opening attempt will be femme!Wash from Firefly, since of all the characters, he's the one I most *look* like, y'know?

Anyway, like your list of possible femme!Docs, though my fave is far and away Emma Thompson. She'd be a rockin' Doc, IMO. :)

Thanks for the post!

Glad you enjoyed the article! You will have to post picture of your femme!Wash when the costume is finished. That sounds shiny. :)

Costuming is already such a tricky balance between what characters you look like and what costumes you like and are capable of making/obtaining. It's nice that the movement is growing so that gender doesn't constrain choices. Now if only the dudes will start costuming as female characters (either in drag or masculine reinterpretations), we'll really have come far.

Emma Thompson would indeed be a fantastic Doctor. She's like acting magic.
