I love it! The Brigadier should just accept that the Doctor never is going to allow him a peaceful retirement... Much put-upon Brig in a daft situation = Love & it was good to see him with Nine, too. :-)

Thank you. I'm not sure the Brigadier's capable of a peaceful retirement even without the Doctor around!

i love that, once again, the brigadier manages to recognise the doctor. the story in general is just great fun and i enjoy the idea of the brigadier sharing his house with gnomes from now on :)

Thank you. I'm not so sure the Brigadier's quite so excited about the idea :)

I love the Doctor's and the Brig's voices in this.

The Brigadier decided to give up on asking questions for now; it only led to more. That it does, that it does. ;-)

Thank you. That's the Doctor for you - never explaining everything.

Poor Brigadier. One day he'll get a quiet life.

and now he was too British to ask

*DIES*

I love how the Brig recognizes the Doctor right away. And how the Doctor says "It's a garden gnome," as if that should explain everything, and how Doris is so calm -- the woman's a rock, really, and the Brig's very lucky to have her. And the Lambton Worm -- fascinating bit of paranormal history! And the end choked me up. The Brig underestimates himself, really, and his steady presence might have been just what the Doctor needed after what he went through -- but then, there's Doris and the community to rebuild. A hard choice to make.

Thanks so much for this, mystery writer. It's brilliant and fantastic and you've made my whole week!

I'm so glad you liked it. I would have liked to have seen he Brigadier go off with the Doctor at the end, it would have been interesting seeing them together.

I have to admit that I only came across the Lambton Worm while searching Wikipedia for a suitable villain :)

It would! The Brig definitely needs a few trips in the TARDIS. Possibly with several Doctors in succession... oh dear, you're giving me ideas. *grins*

It's a legend I've never heard of, anyway; always nice to find a new one, and you handled it with aplomb. Garden gnomes.... *collapses giggling again*

No, they're good ideas! The world needs more Brig anyway.

You did ask for a silly monster :)
