A terrific UNIT era jaunt; I can't decide whether my favourite line is "the Master has never taken criticism well" or "he may be Master of something, but classical composition isn't it".*g* Great Brig, Jo and Three interaction, too.

Thank you! It was the first time I've written in this era, but it was terrific fun, especially a dastardly Master on the conductor's podium.

YES.

i may have read this a little quickly as i ought to be working, but even so i thought it was excellent. i love the idea of the brigadier at the opera (though i'm sure the master was composing in a different genre than earthlings could possibly comprehend), and the master as composer and conductor and this:

"I thought I'd fried your brain, Doctor!" Jo gave him a little shake. "I don't care how noble it seems, you mustn't ever give up like that again. There's always a way out, you know."

The Doctor smiled ruefully. "I am sorry, Jo. I suppose I must have gotten caught up in the opera. It lends a certain grandiose drama to everything.

reads like a large-scale/small scale genuine episode :) and a genuine master-plan (which, as usual, doesn't work. good stuff)

Thank you! (I think the Master was frying the puny human brains with pure Galifreyan culture!)

This is just brilliant. So many great lines and absolutely UNIT-era Who with the opera thrown in.

I think, in the end, this may still be my favourite line: Jo paused with a tea-bag in her hand. "Do you mean 'Oh dear, that's a bit of a bungle,' or 'Oh dear, we need to evacuate the lab?'" because it's so a question anyone working with this Doctor would need to ask.

It was great fun, well-written and well-plotted from start to finish. :-)

Oh, and I also like the nod to Phantom in the title.

Thank you! I was trying to capture the extreme drama of Phantom, I'm glad you caught the reference.

Oh, indeed. I cannot hide my tragic love of Phantom!!

Are you going to post it on Teaspoon as well? *asks hopefully*

This line:

Jo paused with a tea-bag in her hand. "Do you mean 'Oh dear, that's a bit of a bungle,' or 'Oh dear, we need to evacuate the lab?'"

made me guffaw! Sensible question, Jo!

And yay for the Brig in a kilt! :D
