We've actually done that, and they love it. They're a creative bunch, and they just glom on to assignments like that -- anything that sparks something in their creative brain.
And I'm amazed by what they see in a picture that I don't, until they spell it out for me. Literally.
I'm not sure how much they're learning, but I know we're having a blast.
I remember once having to personify an emotion. Give the emotion a body, sex, gender, dress code, manurisms, dialect, all that good stuff. I thought it was a fun exercise.
Oh, or you could have them grab a dictionary, open it to a random page, pick a word, and then have to write something based on that word.
Wonderful suggestion! I asked them to picture an emotion as a person, then to describe that person. You could see their eyes light up when they got it. And they has some very astute insights into some of the emotions.
