Uhura, McCoy, and Fannish Double Standards

File this under: "Why are we still having this discussion?" but I'm still seeing the same arguments going around Trek fandom two months later, and I've commented all over the place but never actually gathered my thoughts. So allow me to wring out my grey matter into a gloopy pile on a silver platter for you.

They, in point of fact, do.

It's sad, but what can you do. (Legally.)

I generally go with "shake head sadly from a safe distance". It keeps me relatively sane.

I absolutely agree and I love your icon! Anne Hathaway as Christine Chapel is just win!

I don't get that either. Maybe it's the Boys Club syndrome or something. I want to see Uhura continue to be a kick-ass character, as well as Spock's paramour. (And I'd like to see Spock actually working at his station- wearing that data-eyepiece, and playing that station like an orchestra...)

Your analysis was, as usual, spot on. I liked how you picked out the beats of the story, as well as the devices used. (I wonder what sort of symbolism Kirk being choked so many times means?)

I cannot wait for it to come out on DVD.
