Tex has had a nasty throaty, mucuosy sounding cough for about 2.5 weeks now. I have it too. Should I bring him to the doctor? I always feel like they are just going to tell me to give him cough syrup (which does nothing.) Would you take your kid to the dr for a cough?

depends on the frequency, how long it has been around, if it sounds like it is in the lungs. I have taken Reza in for a cough cause it lasted about a week and turned out to be a sinus infection and the mucus drip was what was causing the cough.

A very similar sounding bug has been going around here (Boston). Ry had it and now Cal has it too. I think so long as he isn't acting really sick or seeming like he's getting sicker there's not much the doctor can do. The things they tell you to watch for are fevers, lethargy, labored breathing. The cough definitely lingers. I can't remember how long Ry had the cough for but it was a while!

Given the time of year, it's probably allergies being aggravated by a post nasal drip. Have you tried some Benadryl at bedtime? It will probably help him sleep as an added bonus. :-)

FWIW, you can take Benadryl safely in pregnancy.

Hope you're both feeling better soon!

I thought they stopped recommending cough syrups for little ones. My mom was trying to find some for Andrew the last time and all she could find was Triaminic cough and it said it wasn't recommended for kids under
Does he have a fever at all? Is it hurting him? It couldn't hurt to call the DR and ask the nurse for an opinion.

He just seems to be coughing now when he is running or when he is crying. I only gave him cough syrup 2 times, the other times I gave him children's zyrtec for allergies.
