I am always amazed that Americans can resent poor welfare moms SO MUCH and yet corporations who get away with not paying taxes and at the same time keeping wages and benefits low while paying their CEOs so much seem to skate by with little or no resentment. Close their tax loopholes and make them pay their fair share ( Read more... )

A lot of people I know have this mindset that no one on welfare has a job, which couldn't be farther from the truth. The TRUTH is that it's a hell of a lot more complicated than that. Plenty of people on welfare have jobs--they simply don't pay well. There are too many obstacles in the way of most people getting well-paying jobs. Even a college degree these days doesn't matter that much. Now you have to have a Master's in something and even then it's still difficult.

...I may end up writing an article on this topic now.

I would love it.

I've been weary of gripes about welfare moms since I was one in early 80s. Like welfare families are living it up or something. Sheesh.

Of course they must try to break unions. Unions are the only people/orgs standing up for workers.
