It reminded me, just a little bit, about the story of the couple who each sacrificed something dear to buy the other a gift--the husband gave up his treasured watch to buy beautiful combs for his wife's beautiful hair (the kind that hold it in place, not the kind you groom with), and she cut and sold her long hair to buy a golden chain for his beloved watch.
Our case wasn't quite so grand or tragic, but the same thought was there. The point being, the love behind it all is more valuable than a concert or being together on one particular day when we're together all the days of our life.
