As I hurry home from the station after dropping off a bento for Hajime (for the second time in two days), I have second thoughts about stopping by the market. I had intended to send Eiji there for me today, since there wasn’t time yesterday. I do need to increase his household responsibilities ( ... )

"Perfect! I'll take it!" Everything else that I have seen up to now that I might want to get for him has had a price tag attached to it that is way more than what I am carrying with me. But this, this is something Kenshin can appreciate AND I can afford it too ( ... )

I am preoccupied thinking about the things that I need to buy today. That is probably why I am startled to feel someone bump into me from behind.

I’m usually very aware of what is going on around me and I tend to be especially watchful whenever I am in a large group of people. Like this crowd of shoppers. Probably a result of being married to….

"Oh, I’m so sorry!” I hear a voice say.

I turn quickly to look at the speaker. I see a young, pleasant looking girl with an honest face that seems to have a worried look written across it.

“Please, think nothing of it. It is very crowded here today. Things like this are bound to happen.” I say in my most gracious tone of voice.

I thought I heard something fall to the ground right after I felt the bump. I quickly glance to the ground and see a package lying in the street. “Is that your package on the ground? I hope that nothing is damaged.”

Uh oh... this person did notice, did hear me, and is turning around now. It was my fault but it was not intentional. Hopefully they don't think I am some sort of pickpocket!

"Please, think nothing of it."

"Oh, good. Thank you for being understanding." Breathing out a sigh of relief, I smile and bow, feeling much more at ease now, or so I think.

"Is that your package on the ground? I hope that nothing is damaged."

"Ack!" My hands fly down to gather the wrapped package in my hands until I lift it off the ground, only to have Kenshin's gift become unraveled for all to see. Not like I am ashamed of buying a pair of sandals for my husband... but this insistence of having to wear magenta-colored tabi socks has got to go!

"No, no, this wasn't your fault!" I wipe the dust off my purchases, then start to laugh nervously. "I was more afraid of you thinking that I was trying to pick your pocket and then having you shout for the police!" That must sound rather suspicious of me to say so I hastily add, "But I wasn't trying to do that, ( ... )

I bow back to her as she realizes that she dropped her parcel and reaches down to pick it up.

“No,no, this wasn’t your fault!”

Of course it was not my fault! I’m not the one who bumped into someone. Poor girl. The wrapping came off.

Now I think she sounds flustered and she’s afraid that I might call the police, thinking that she’s a pickpocket. (If only she knew…)

I’m not worried. This one is no pickpocket. I don’t think that she has any ill intent.

I don’t mean to be nosey, but I can’t help but see what has fallen out of the wrapping. I fight to keep an amused look off of my face. That color! I’m too polite, at least with a complete stranger, to ask about those. But I CAN speculate. Must be the newest fashion statement for her age group, probably influenced by those Europeans! Or perhaps she just wants to attract attention to herself. At any rate that color is certainly not what I would be wearing on MY feet!

"But I wasn’t trying to do that really." Do what? Oh, that! I was lost in thought again for the second ( ... )
