Merlin: 5:08 The Hollow Queen

Nov 25, 2012 16:08

Right. That was 5.08.  I wont get those 45 minutes back.

Much as I thought I could stick it out to the end, I’m seriously starting to wonder if I underestimated the ability of the producers of this show to annihilate every thing that was good about it before the finale. Are they actually trying to drive their audience to the point where Camlann ( Read more... )

Okay, I haven't read any more than your above the cut intro, but already feel the need to stop and go "Thank the maker, I'm not the only one who felt like that after this episode." I have WAY too much to get off my chest about this one...but will now read your actual analysis.

P.S. Breaking news that this is the last series, ending on Christmas Day. Woot.

I'm sad, a little bit, but mostly glad. Let's put this thing out of its misery.

Oh, is it? Well, I can't say I'm too sad about it at this point. Better to get it over with quickly. :(

You know, I was actually thinking about you while I was watching the episode with its blatant demolition of Arthur The Grown-Up King, and how you were going to hate it. :P I myself was cringing so many times throughout the ep at what they were doing to Arthur. The dressing scene, though Gaius' reaction was indeed very funny, was the last straw IMO. *shudders* Utterly disrespectful to the character and just so overdone ( ... )

Oh, and I was thinking: poor crippled Aithusa is the perfect symbol for all that's going wrong with the show - the promise for Albion's future that we're probably never going to see. What a moment of hope it was when Aithusa was born! And now?

... Yeah.

Good point :( If they really planned this festival of disappointment from the start they should be bloody ashamed. I tend to think though that its as Eoin said (I believe) at Coldcon. They never have a plan - they make it up as they go along

hey there :) Sorry for the late reply. Im half laughing half cringing at the idea of you watching the show thinking 'Oh God she's going to rant about this!' :-D

I did think Richard was superb this week - he is just such a class act but yes - that scene was too close to the end to be justifiable. Its bad enough that they've shown Arthur has failed in his destiny without making him any more of a buffoon. Its as if no one told Julian J that there are just 4 episodes to go until they kill Arthur off. You'd think the whole enchanted patsy thing would be enough of a dignity-stripper to satisfy them.Sigh

I do sometimes wonder of Bradleys way of getting through these execrable scripts IS just to play it like a cross between Enchanted Arthur and Simpleton Arthur. He must be gutted - he loved Arthur as a character. Maybe he AND Colin have been gropign to make sense of what the show has done to them. Again with le sigh.

Thank YOU for your posts. I love them :)

It would be easier to write a meaningful response if I didn't agree with 99% of what you said here ( ... )

I stopped thinking this show made sense ages ago. I gave up trying to expect stuff but fail then say I give up again.

I try to not let it get to me and it doesn't. When I see something that does not gel I push it aside now in a second.

If it really bugged me too much I would stop watching.

The ratio of entertainment/fail still fall on entertainment.

I just watch for the pretty pictures and amusing/and interesting segments not really for it as a whole piece.

I feel sorry for Bradley. It is such humiliation to play such a role. I bet he want to get away with it as soon as possible. As for A/G romance fan, there must be something wrong with their EQ and IQ. That romance story is so humiliating to watch.

I feel sorry for him too - his character HAS been totally humiliated and theres so much more of it to come before he's finally despatched. As you know I really really dont understand how people have got so invested in a romance as dull, and as chemistry and issue free as Arwen is but - my God they really, really are. So - um... I guess each to their own and all that :P

Well, you know, damsel in distress must have some dream that one day a very handsome, rich and high-level man will give up everyting for her and she meant everything to the man. Well. That is probably the only way to keep them going in the tough and miserable real life.

Yeah, I don't buy it. Aside from the rabid Gwen stans, are there really that many people rabid about that romance? Some yes, but certainly not the majority. Or at least not the majority within fandom proper. The average un-invested viewer just thinks "oh, that's sweet..." and while those folks are important because they represent the majority of viewership...they're not the majority of the group that spends their time hyper-analyzing the show.

Okay, yeah, I am pissed how much of the narrative of these last eps is being spent on this f'ing relationship to the detriment of the one I care about. I'll own that.
