Over here, one can buy clay pots or shallow trays of potting soil, with shots of special grasses and herbs specifically chosen and intended for pets to chew on - sort of a "sacrificial pot" of "sacrificial plants". I've seen this, advertised on late-night television and in our cornier catalogs and sunday supplement newspaper magazines.
My last dog couldn't resist eating grass; We would go for walks on Saturday or Sunday mornings down to the park, and pause to rest on the way home, about a block from our door, on the grass lawn in front of the office buildings; it was shady there and the grass was cool, and often had tender, bright green shoots, as opposed to the darker, more fibrous older grass. So long as the dog ate the tender shoots, he could keep it down, but the older grass would come back up within about 7 minutes. It was almost embarassing, - cars driving by, and this big, black and white, wolf-like malamute, grazing like a sheep!
