Title: Piano at the Courtyard
Pairings: Seohyun/Kyuhyun
Ratings: PG
Summary: Seohyun get embroiled deeper, as her father reveals to her his past. Kyuhyun meets up with his gang of friends, and one of them is seriously injured. Will this lead to a spark of confrontation?

Seohyun gulped involuntarily, as her father cast a piercing glare towards her when she stood, immobilized, outside the car door. She hesitantly lifted her hand from the door handle, and turned towards her father, her head slightly bowed. Someone suddenly gripped her hand, and she gasped. Whirling around, she found Sooyoung smiling at her, as she placed a chain into her hand. Before leaving Seohyun and her father alone, Sooyoung whispered something into her ear, making the elder man fidget slightly.

"Father…..could you please explain?" Seohyun questioned, trying hard not to let her overwhelming queries take over her at this instant. He exhaled sharply, as he turned his head to the side to let out a slight huff. He glanced at his wife in the car, and motioned to his wife to lower the shades.

"I'm going to talk to our daughter, you may want to go book a seat for lunch later on, we will meet you there together." He stated quietly, before drawing up straight, and crooked his arm slightly. Seohyun lightly skipped towards the other side of the car and slid her arm into her dad's. This gesture suddenly makes us seem so….unfamiliar, so unknown to each other. Perhaps I have never known the real truth behind the father I see a few times every month…

---------------------

As her father lifted the cup of coffee to his lips, Seohyun couldn't help but shift a little in her chair, feeling that her father was avoiding the subject at hand. She earned a disapproving glare from her father, and she immediately dropped her head and stared at her hands in her lap. She waited for him to resume drinking, before daring to lift her eyes to peek at her father's expression. To her surprise, for the very first time, he heard her father sigh.

"Father, what's wrong?" Seohyun asked, afraid to break the silence that had pervaded since they sat down at this coffee table.

He stared at Seohyun, feeling a rush of memories enter his mind. How many times have I behaved like this with my father, as if we do not share any close ties at all? I wonder if I was the one who inculcated such values in my own child… The people in the mafia do not stay close to their child…or unless I'm the only exception?

"Seohyun, do you know someone whose surname is Cho?" He placed his mug carefully down the mug, sensing that it was going to be a long discussion and talk, the very first sharing between the father and his daughter.

"Cho Kyuhyun?" Seohyun stated, as she watched her father flinched slightly in his seat.

------------------------

Kyuhyun straightened his jacket, before walking into the polished building in front of him. Many expected the mafia to hold underground dealings in shady areas, never would they think that the most important and distinguished guests were always present here, making this their permanent meeting place. Well, many myths and beliefs are going to be thrown out of the window this year, when I succeed. Kyuhyun mused quietly to himself.

Pushing open a door, he grinned slightly, as he spotted his friends already sitting down, staring at the television before them, as one of the guys held onto the remote control glumly as they flipped through the channels together. He made a mental count, and noted that 6 members were present, with the exception of 2. Clearing his throat slightly, he moved into the room, smiling widely as everybody switched their attention to welcome him.

"Yah! Why did you take so long? We are all bored out of our lives! And the channels are now showing sucky programmes!" One guy at the far end of the room grumbled aloud, before laughing one of those signature high-pitched laughs of his. His name was Eeteuk, usually the most caring member out of their lot, but was certainly ruthless when executing missions. He was exceptionally skilled in the art of deception, making him one of the most valuable members in the band of brothers.

The guy holding on to the remote control glanced at Kyuhyun, blowing his cheeks out slightly. "Yeah! Eeteuk's right, all the programmes here are really quite sucky. I can't believe it that because of your succession, the 6 of us will have to stay here in Korea and study in your school. I need to move some stuff over to Korea as well. I guess I can stay for the whole night for today, before returning to Japan for some stuff." Sungmin, one who was skilled in martial arts and one of the most renowned assassins in Korea. Once a mission was given, he would definitely not fail. Holding a perfect record of roughly 50 missions till now, and considering that he was only 3 years older than Kyuhyun, it was a commendable feat. The 'stuff' that he had to do probably referred to other mission.

"Sungmin! Who is your next target?" The guy sitting beside Sungmin teased slightly, before turning back to the television in front of him. Yesung, another guy who was also skilled in assassination, but rarely does it today, as he commands roughly 5 large street gangs under him, making him one of the most respected gang leaders in Korea's society, although the groups under him were not as formidable and large as Kyuhyun's. When combined, they proved to be indestructible, and Yesung had the knowledge to run such underground matters, and thus is able to give valuable advice to Kyuhyun. Sungmin turned around and scowled at Yesung, pretending to draw a mock blade across Yesung's throat.

Two other guys chuckled at the sight, waving at Kyuhyun, and one of them moved over slightly to make space for Kyuhyun. Kyuhyun sat down beside Donghae, who was dressed in a suit, seemingly slightly overdressed for the occasion. Seeing Kyuhyun's raised eyebrows, Donghae rushed to defend himself. He produced a card from his pocket, handling it around the group of friends.

You are allowed to access this meeting at the Bellroom. You will be further notified the time and dates.

Donghae grinned slightly, proud of his achievement. This card would allow them to formally introduce Kyuhyun as the next leader, and probably settle some outstanding matters that are glaring right at them in the face. Donghae, in charge of information, was always the one to be notified of such meetings and events, allowing each member to prepare sufficiently and never be left out in any occasion.

"Nice job." Ryeowook, the youngest-looking guy sitting next to Sungmin stated quietly, giving the thumbs up to Donghae, who responded with a wide smile of his. Ryeowook was somehow the same as Kyuhyun, in the sense that the both of them had parents in the mafia, holding respectable positions. Ryeowook, although he was older, looked much younger than Kyuhyun, and was bound to succeed his father soon as well. With his small figure and looks, many would not expect him to be one of the most experienced thief in Korea, having started this since he was 10 years old. Being trained in the art of Kudo helped him much too.

The door then pushed open again, revealing the two members who were slightly late for their meeting. Heechul waved a hand around, before dragging a chair from the side and plonking down in it. The other guy seemed a little out-of-sorts, settling down into the couch beside Eeteuk, lifting the glass filled with wine to his lips, ignoring Eeteuk's exclaims that it belonged to him. Donghae raised an eyebrow, questioning.

The other guy gulped the whole drink down in one go, before turning around and glaring at Kyuhyun.

"Yah! The announcement of your succession, can't it wait till your good friend here is back before your father announced it? I was busy in Japan, and you let others know the news before me?"

"Hey Eunhyuk, calm down. You weren't even in my invitation list in the first place." Kyuhyun smirked slightly, earning another glare from the guy named Eunhyuk. Eunhyuk threw a cushion over at Kyuhyun, who quickly deflected it with a twist of this hand. He smiled, coaxing an unwilling gummy smile from his hyung. Eunhyuk, always appearing to be foolish and naïve, was the exact opposite of the picture of innocence. Unlike Kyuhyun, whose territory stays firmly within the borders of Korea, Eunhyuk's family had extended to Japan, thus explaining the need for Eunhyuk to ferry between both countries to take care of family matters.

"Anyway, the formal announcement has not yet taken place, and it will do so only next month, where this meeting is held." Kyuhyun mentioned, holding up the card that Donghae had acquired in his hands.

"So that's where you, the leader of the gangs, will be confronting our rivals for the first time?" Yesung whispered, but it was heard by every single person in the room. Heechul smirked, and nodded in affirmation, displaying that he had just gained knowledge that Kyuhyun's father had just released information of the succession to the underground world.

"Nice one, Kyuhyun. So this thing is the first thing that can prove your ability to be a leader?" Donghae asked, raising Kyuhyun's finger up, staring at the carvings engraved into the metal ring. It was customary for new leaders to prove that they were up to the job and able to lead others well, by completing a mission of their own choice. Going against and eradicating one of the rival gangs was a tough feat, not to mention that this rival was indeed fearsome. Kyuhyun nodded slightly, uncertainty present on his face, before it was replaced by a blank expression.

"Yah yah magnae! Don't need to act in front of us! We will support you in whatever way we can! Cheers!" Sungmin exclaimed, already having predicted Kyuhyun's response towards the matter at hand. As everyone raised their wine glasses into the air, a shrill ring pierced through the celebratory mood, and Ryeowook reluctantly drew his phone out from his pocket.

"Yeah? What? Oh, I already expected him to return since a long time ago. He couldn't possibly stay away from Korea for such long periods of time….Okay." Ryeowook shut his phone, before glancing around the room. "Mr Seo is back…not surprising…which means the girl whom you are protecting should now know the events and the happenings of the underground world…"

Heechul stiffened visibly, as all the members turned their heads to look at him. He whipped out his handphone and quickly dialed a number. "Yeah, good afternoon. Whatever you say later, do not mention Mr Cho's name." Heechul rushed through, before closing his phone shut, earning astonished glances. He shrugged his shoulders slightly. "I can think on my feet okay!" He dismissed, and everyone's attention was back onto the ring that Kyuhyun was wearing.

Eunhyuk quickly pulled out his phone once he felt it vibrating. "Yeah?....I will be right there." Eunhyuk jumped up, only to held back by Sungmin.

"One of my guys, beaten by that stupid rival gangs of yours. I have to go and see now…on my own homeground furthermore." Eunhyuk muttered angrily under his breath, his glare conveying his exact emotions. I wonder if he is okay… Eunhyuk thought to himself, as he clenched his fists together, before attempting to rush out of the room.

Everyone stood up together, raising as one. "We will all go together. I have more to say later." Kyuhyun stated, and added, "We will all go. It's not safe for one to go by yourself. We can protect each other" as he saw Eunhyuk trying to shake his head to discourage them from joining him. Eunhyuk hesitated slightly, before rushing out of the room together with the others.

-------------------------

Seohyun's father whitened visibly after receiving a call. Seohyun wondered at his reaction, before prodding her father slightly to continue with his story. He jolted out of his fright, before giving a shaky smile to his own daughter. He pulled out a charm, sliding it onto the bracelet that Sooyoung had just given her. Seohyun widened her eyes slightly, unable to decipher the meaning behind it.

"This will allow the others to explain it to you tomorrow. I have given them permission." He stated, taking another gulp of coffee. "I assume that you are being bullied at school now, are you?" Her father asked quietly.

Father? What is this? How did you even know? Seohyun thought, surprised and stunned.

Her father took in her expression, staring at her slightly above his coffee cup. He regretted that he had not spend enough time with his family, resulting in such a distant and formal relationship between the two of them. "Seohyun. I think it is time you know about my past as well." Her father stated, looking out for Seohyun's reaction.

"I used to be a high ranking member in this gang. The name of the gang…I cannot say, I swore to listen and obey whatever the chief wants us to follow." He hesitated slightly, but his daughter appeared to be taking this in pretty well. "I was…until something happened. I broke away from the gang, because I embezzled some funds from a prominent gang, and in order to survive, I whisked us away to rural areas, so they would not find us. Therefore, if you look back on your memories, you will find it quite a blur, because I keep switching environments for you, without allowing you to settle down in a place or make friends with any villagers. I'm sorry for what has happened." Her father stated.

Seohyun sat rigid in her chair, in complete silence and shock. Her father…just apologized to her? This was happening at too fast a pace for Seohyun to absorb and take it in carefully. That was why Father was so afraid of Jessica and the others….because they knew what happened?

"And the charm?" Her father's voice snapped her out of her shock.

"If they ask you if you know anything about the charm, just say no."

Her father then mumbled under his breath so softly that Seohyun was not sure if she had even heard it properly. "I don't want my daughter to join the gang."

-----------------------------
Eunhyuk burst right through the doors, earning disapproving glares from the nurses, who quickly quailed under his fierce glare. The others, who were right behind him, did not help alleviate the atmosphere either, adding on to the frostiness experienced in the hospital ward. Eunhyuk opened the door to a room, and breathed a sigh of relief as he spotted the guy on the bed conscious and not harmed rather seriously. He walked over to the side of the bed and looked at the casts that were on the guy.

"Yah Junsu! Why did you let them catch you undefended? Stupid guy…now you have a broken leg and arm, how are you going to function as my partner-in-crime in the few months? Who was it?" Eunhyuk reprimanded his friend.

Junsu rolled his eyes slightly before replying. "Well, there is nothing to get so agitated about. You can function fairly well with your group of friends here." Junsu grinned and waved his unbroken arm to the others, welcoming them into the room.

"Who is it?"

Junsu stared at the absolutely fuming and livid guy standing beside his bedside, before releasing a sigh. "Who else?"

Eunhyuk tightened his grip on his phone, and unconsciously tightened his hold on his friend's arm as well, causing Junsu to wince slightly at the pressure applied. Junsu shook Eunhyuk, motioning to his arm. Eunhyuk quickly withdrew his hand, as he turned around to make a call. Donghae walked over and placed a hand on Eunhyuk's shoulder, before whispering something into his ear. Eunhyuk hesitated slightly, before shrugging the hand off and continued with his call.

So the very first face-off? Kyuhyun thought to himself.

Eunhyuk turned around, his face hard and emotionless. "I'm going to get back at him for this. Hyuna's dad is stepping across the line that I set for him. Attacking one of the top members in my gang, displaying their threat? I'm not going to let him get away with this." Eunhyuk turned towards Kyuhyun, silently asking for permission.

Kyuhyun told about it, contemplated the possible consequences. He looked at every member in the room, all raring to go and get the action started. He looked straight into Eunhyuk's eyes, burning with a bursting fury that could light up any time. Kyuhyun nodded, and everyone took out their phones to make respective calls.
