Title: The reason to dance (Chapter 8)
Pairing: Eunhae, Kyumin
Ratings: PG
Summary: Eunhyuk is certain of his feelings...just that he is unsure of how to act in front of Donghae.

Eunhyuk looked down at the ground underneath the bench, scuffling his feet. He studied an ant crawling on the ground, and he sighed. I know my feelings for Donghae already long surpasses the concept of friendship…but what if I'm wrong? What if… He glanced up dejectedly, wondering how he was going to sort out his emotions. They were like fishes, darting around his body, unable to keep still or calm, some urging him to get on his feet to find a guy called Lee Donghae, others urging him to stay on that bench and consider this carefully. He stared at the clouds above, wondering if there was truly another entity above that could help solve his troubles for him. He closed his eyes, his mind flashing images right in front of his eyes.

Donghae looking forlornly when he entered the classroom, or when he left the classroom right after Eunhyuk threw the 'letter' away. Donghae grinning discreetly to himself whenever they passed messages around. Donghae smiling so widely when he managed to learn a dance step from Eunhyuk within seconds, and being able to catch up fast. Donghae passing him a bottle of water, the happiness infectious and contagious. His smile, those that crinkle around his eyes and make the world seem fine again. His eyes, the way they express their emotions, whether during dance or during class, flashing passion or disinterest. Eunhyuk groaned to himself.

Laughter floated through the air to reach Eunhyuk's ears, like strains of heavenly music diffusing slowly, lifting his mood immediately. That laughter….sounds familiar. Eunhyuk opened his eyes, noticing Kyuhyun and Sungmin standing in the distance, walking slowly towards the bench he was at. They did not seem to notice him, however, and Kyuhyun was draping his arms over Sungmin. What.!?!? Eunhyuk jumped up in an instant, catching the couple's attention. His eyes flashed, and Sungmin ducked slightly behind Kyuhyun's back, peeking out under his arm. Kyuhyun snickered to himself, and pulled Sungmin along with him to meet Eunhyuk, or finally tell the truth to Eunhyuk, who really is a blind monkey.

--------------------

"And to think that I'm one of your closest friends…and you only tell me this momentous and totally earth-shattering news now?" Eunhyuk exclaimed, his voice getting higher and louder as he reached the end of his question. Sungmin winced slightly, pulling Eunhyuk back onto the chair, who had been too stunned to even resist.

"Well Eunhyuk, you can’t blame us for not telling you. We thought it was really obvious. The signs were all in front of you, we leave you alone during lunch, we run off together right after school, or we even come to school together. Oh yes…you probably didn't notice, you were rather busy yourself, aren't you?" Kyuhyun nudged Sungmin, who let out a chuckle and a mock glare at Eunhyuk. Eunhyuk felt his cheeks suffuse with colour rapidly, as he tried to brush the creeping redness away by shaking his head furiously.

"What do you mean! And don’t change the topic!" Eunhyuk glared back at the couple, who was already laughing hard on the bench. Kyuhyun managed to mumble out, "Well…that guy…Lee Donghae, he's a pretty good person! He will be a great boyfriend for you I guess…but I'm not sure about the other way round…" before he dissolved back into chuckles.

Eunhyuk frowned slightly, seeing the truth in his friend's statement. However, it wasn't just that easy to explain and vocalize his feelings, it was such a frightening task, as if he would be jumping off a cliff, not knowing what faced him at the other end, death by shattering his skull upon the bed of jagged rocks below, or into a meadow of grass, where everywhere was perfect, with just Eunhyuk…and him.

Sungmin quieted down, noticing the sudden change in the expression of Eunhyuk's features. He raised his eyebrows, unable to guess at the reason that brought about this alteration in his friend. "Eunhyuk….are you… actually afraid of confessing?" Sungmin guessed wildly, knowing that his friend was unable to commit himself to doing something, unless he was very sure that he would succeed, or he was really interested in that matter.

Eunhyuk turned himself slightly away, so that his friends were unable to see the confusion on his face, and the shock that Sungmin had guessed it correctly at the very first try. He kicked the floor slowly, nudging blades of grass forward against their will. Kyuhyun exchanged surprise glances with Sungmin, who shrugged his shoulders and pointed at the puzzled guy in front of them.

"I have a question…." Eunhyuk mumbled, before glancing up at the intrigued eyes of his friends.

"Shoot."

"How do you…exactly know this person is the one for you? How….do you know that in the future you two wouldn't find each other detestable and hateful, so much that you want that person to leave from your sight, and the fact that choosing a relationship over friendship…means that…once you break up, the friendship is over as well, right?" Eunhyuk looked back down at his shoes, as he shared his heartfelt feelings.

Kyuhyun sighed.

"Eunhyuk, to this, I have only my perspective and experience? To offer you, I guess." Kyuhyun stated, as his mouth turned upwards into a wry smile. "Some people say they go with the flow, they get caught up in the heat of feelings, just randomly crushing on a certain person, and they think that is love. Some think that love has to be cultivated, nurtured, just like how a young shoot mature into a plant, in order to see if that plant will be able to weather through storms in the future, or will wither at the slightest touch of nature.

For me, knowing that Sungmin is actually the one that I had to risk my friendship for a relationship, I was initially confused as well, and afraid. But it actually hurts, Eunhyuk, it hurts not to see him smile every single day. It bewilders me, that overpowering emotion to see him every day, just to make sure he is fine and happy, content with the way his life is moving. There is this intense and overwhelming sensation when I face him every day, and it doesn't fade away with time. That is how I determine whether I should proceed on further, of course, you have to know the other guy's feelings as well.

As for the part when we may one day break apart," Kyuhyun's voice adopting a strange tone all of a sudden, "it will be an inevitable fact, and I will face it strongly, face on. But I will know that I have beautiful memories of this time we once shared together, and I will cherish them and keep them, because they are part of my growing up process, they are part of what makes me, what builds into the person I am today. I recognize the fact that I may one day end up hating that person, but I cannot deny the fact that that exact person has provided me with so much joy once I thought I could burst from the passion.

And I know….if I don't confess, I wouldn't have enjoyed this feeling. The benefits outweigh the negative aspects. And I know I have made the right choice, with what I'm experiencing right now." Kyuhyun took in a deep breath, looking straight at Eunhyuk in the eye. Eunhyuk quickly avoided his gaze, unsure of his feelings.

Sungmin sighed, as the responsibility of convincing his friend here fell onto his shoulders. "You are wondering how you are going to act in front of him right? When you feel so shy, you feel that you are unable to express yourself freely at all, strip yourself of your inhibitions and show Donghae the actual person you are?" Eunhyuk hesitated, before nodding tentatively, surprised at how intuitive is friend was.

"Well, in my opinion, you really have to trust that person in front of you. You must be first willing to share, to share your feelings, your experiences, your life story. It's hard, I recognize that, but if you two truly like each other, I guess that would not deter you. So I guess you can see it as a test, to see if you two are really compatible for each other?"

"Give yourself a chance, give him a chance, and give the both of you a chance. The chance to develop, before you inhibit it, crushing all possible ways of further maturation."Sungmin's voice dropped to a whisper.

"Well, we leave the rest for you to think. It's difficult to overcome your emotional barrier, but when you do, you find that the rewards may be plenty, and you may find something that lasts you a lifetime. It's a risk, it's a gamble, but aren't life all about taking risks? About playing this game? Betting whether you live past a certain age by planning your career path, betting whether you will be successful when you chart out your future, betting whether you will be fortunate and blissful when taking the path you chose to take?" Kyuhyun asked rhetorically, before grabbing Sungmin's hand and running out of the park.

Eunhyuk stared at the disappearing figure of his two friends, running towards the sun, the silhouette evident against the backdrop of the setting sun. The picture of perfectness, the picture of what could have been, or what it will be, for him, if he was willing to take the step forward, and grab the opportunity that was staring at him in his eyes.

"It doesn't matter if Donghae doesn't return my feelings, I have it enough for the both of us until he turns around and feel the same way I do. It doesn't matter if he rejects me, at the very least I know I have tried, and not abandon this feeling of content and satisfaction settling right down and warming my stomach." Eunhyuk thought to himself, holding his hand up, tracing a certain pattern in the air. He smiled to himself, finally able to be at peace.

Jumping to his feet, he started running, in the direction of the dance studio.

--------------------

"Donghae. You can't just leave like that."

Donghae whirled around to see Jessica facing away from him, but from that tone of her voice, he knew that something was wrong with her. He was torn, between his desire to find Eunhyuk at his instant, and the obligation to break this off in a peaceful and food manner, settling and resting this matter once and for all.

"Jessica." He mumbled cautiously, sighing a little inwardly as he dropped his bag to the floor again. "I'm sorry….I guess I have changed…I really have…."

"Don't you dare use that excuse with me. Or the line that 'It's my fault, not yours.' What happened to whatever we had once?"

"I guess…..it's gone. I'm sorry to say this…but till now I think I am blinded, not being able to see love truly as what it is, or identifying the exact essence of it. I admit, I have feelings for you when we first started out, but I couldn't see us in the future, settling down together, just sitting down and chatting calmly. Being with you is like a hurricane, exhilarating, but exhausting at the same time. I think I have fallen in love with some other person, and I apologise." Donghae stated simply.

"Oppa….you really have changed. You never been so vocal before, you never told me your feelings in front of me before, you never expressed yourself before. You never did once, and you expect me to understand you? You are too selfish oppa, you are too selfish…"Jessica turned around to face Donghae, tear tracks evident on her face.

Donghae dropped his head to face the ground, kicking himself. He knew it was his fault, but he was unable to portray or depict their future together, while he was actually able to see a possibility for himself with that person. Jessica walked over slowly, and raised Donghae's head, staring right into his eyes. He gazed back, unflinching, but apologetic. For once, he found himself unable to back down, and had to face this head on, settle this clearly.

With tears threatening to overflow in her eyes, Jessica leaned forward and pressed her lips on Donghae's cheek softly, before the tears tumbled down on their accord, ignoring her determination not to shed any.

Jessica whirled around, wiping the tears off with a fierce brush of her hands.

"Go oppa, go find Eunhyuk. I hope you find your happiness with him."

Donghae heaved a sigh of relief, bowing once at the unmoving figure in the middle of the room, before leaving uncertainly, out of the dance studio and into the corridor.

"And oppa. I really loved you." Jessica's voice dropped to a whisper, as she finally succumbed to the tears that were flowing non-stop, unable to turn her emotions off at her own whim.

---------------------

Somehow, he had sensed, that those approaching footsteps in the opposite direction.

Somehow, he sensed that the approaching person would be the one he wanted to see.

Eunhyuk slowed down to a stop, coming to a rest outside the building. He reached into his pocket to withdraw his handphone in order to contact the guy he came here for. He fished around, once, twice, before realizing that he had left his bag in the dance studio, unattended. He smacked his palm to his head, mentally cursing himself for forgetting something so important that should have brought with him everywhere.

"Hey, looking for this?"

Eunhyuk turned around, surprised at the sudden addition of a voice. That voice. Familiar. Warm. Reassuring. He squinted against the sunlight, unable to make out the features on that shadow's face clearly. He covered his eyes and looked through his palm, to see his handphone dangling from that stranger's hand. Eunhyuk smiled, unknowingly, feeling at ease instantly.

"Yeah. Thanks."

"Welcome."

They looked at each other, unsure of their next movements. Monosyllables seemed to be enough for now, filling the air with unnecessary words only seem to taint this atmosphere. They broke out into smiles, a little uncomfortable at the newfound silence between them. Donghae raised his hand halfway, with his palm facing up. In his hand was his handphone, displaying the last message Jessica had sent him.

"Did you look through this?"

Eunhyuk cleared his throat, in an attempt to get rid of the embarrassment that was creeping up his neck. He gulped, and stared straight back into those brown eyes. The other guy dropped his gaze a little to stare at the phone in his own hands, a little sheepish.

"Yes."

"You saw?"

"Yes."

"Well.."

Smiles.

Eunhyuk brushed his hair out of his eyes as he thought of the best method to approach the impending situation. It was impossible to run away from it, impossible to hide. Donghae cleared his throat and spoke.

"It's true…?" Donghae stated uncertainly, making his statement of confession more like a question.

Eunhyuk's heart plummeted. It's true? It's true that he has a girlfriend, that he wants to draw this line between us? Eunhyuk raised his hand awkwardly from his side, shrugging his shoulders a little. "Well…I'm sorry then. I didn't know you had a girlfriend…I guess I will stay out…" He mumbled a little incoherently, earning surprised glances from the other guy.

"What?"

"The message…"

"Girlfriend?"

"Uh….yeah?"

"Did you read the last sentence? The one that actually brought me to my senses? The one that prompted me to just break up in order to end up with the guy I really like since the first time I met him, the one that allowed me to finally realize that I have been so blind all along, not grabbing this chance as soon as possible?" Donghae asked, as he took a step closer towards Eunhyuk.

Eunhyuk raised his eyebrows, confused, perplexed. Donghae nudged the phone into Eunhyuk's hands, motioning him to scroll down to finish the whole message.

Oppa, I think I know. It's Eunhyuk, isn't it?

Eunhyuk blushed, as he looked back up, placing the phone into Donghae's hands.

"It's true." Donghae stated, looking straight back into Eunhyuk 's eyes.

Eunhyuk stared back, genuinely surprised. "When….?"

"From the day I saw the passion you possess when you dance. From the day I saw how you hang out with your friends. From the day I saw how you treated your favourite subjects and those that you toally abhor. From the day when I see you daydream when you stare out of the window, doodling random drabbles into that notebook of yours. From that day, when I first placed that note into your drawer." Donghae dropped his gaze a little, shy. For one reticent guy, that was actually the first time he expressed himself so clearly, to someone he wasn't even sure if he felt the same way.

Eunhyuk tilted his head slightly, so Donghae was unable to see the grin that was rapidly spreading across his face. He quickly masked the happiness that was bubbling through him and threatened to burst out on his face, rearranging his features quickly to adopt one similar to a frowning one. He faced Donghae, who hesitantly took a step forward, to stand right in front of him.

"Donghae….I'm afraid I can't."

Donghae stared back, feeling like a moron. "Can't..? Why?"

"Because I have planned to be the one who confessed first." Eunhyuk stated simply, allowing the smile to come forth on his face. He looked on amusedly as Donghae's despondent face went to one that showed plain confusion, to one that started to portray signs that he could not believe what he was hearing.

"What…?" Donghae mumbled.

"Well..I guess for a first date, a dinner actually sounds nice." Eunhyuk smiled, grabbing Donghae's hand and pulled him along towards his favourite dining area.

As Eunhyuk dragged Donghae along, both of them couldn't help suppress the content and pleasure that was spreading through them, noticing the way how their hands seem to fit perfectly with the other's, moulded to form the same shape. Eunhyuk tightened his grip ever so slightly, while Donghae quickened his pace, both looking forward to the exact future which they had thought of so much, and finally were able to grasp it.
