Pairing: Yesung/Ryeowook
Ratings: G
Summary: Children want to grow up as quickly as possible to attain adulthood, as if it is a godly status, but he, on the other hand, just wants to remain as a child forever.

Ryeowook sometimes think the world is upside down, or in reverse, like replay, like you are sitting in a bus facing the wrong way, and you see what has gone past, instead of what's coming, the future.

He sees the trees that have went by, waving their branches softly in the air, as if they were mourning for the loss of time, for the loss of their own youth.

He sees the red leaves gently float in the air, and drop on the road, only to be swept up again by another passing car, up and up into the air, being swayed without a say in their fates.

He sees drivers driving furiously in this busy road, muttering angrily under their breaths when some car overtakes them, and their brows furrow as they quickly plan out the fastest way to overtake the car in front of them.

He sees parents multi-tasking on the road, especially working ones, with one ear having a earpiece plugged in to listen to their customers' demands, and one hand gripping the steering wheel tightly to control the direction of the car. Surrounded by all this craziness, they lift the soft toy resting in the seat adjacent to the driver's seat, and pass it to the sulking child behind, cheering the child up for a moment.

He wonders if the parents know what the child really wants at times, because a child isn't all that complicated, something which humans seem to gain as they grow up. Grown-ups are so complicated, Ryeowook wishes he can remain as a child forever.

He sees dogs resting peacefully on their owners' laps as the owners drive serenely on the road, with one hand resting on the steering wheel, the other mindlessly stroking the cute ball of fluff in their laps. He smiles at the sight, it is rare to see such love exist between two different species now, with Man so caught up in their own fancies and quirks in the world. He hurriedly catches himself, silently prodding himself never to fall into that trap.

He sees couples linking their hands at traffic junctions, and he shyly averts his eyes as they lean in for a chaste but sweet kiss as the red light temporarily gives them some space. He sees the chemistry and love sparkling between their gazes, and he feels loved, as if he is one of the two in that relationship.

He has gained some bitterness when he grows up, and he wonders if this love can continue till eternity, or will it be another broken relationship, ending and marking its death anniversary in a few months, when love is being treated so lightly and informally in this modern era.

Love is a complicated thing, Ryeowook concludes, and that's why only adults are allowed to be in a serious relationship, because they complicate things up so much that children no longer follow the track of thoughts. Ryeowook doesn't understand at times, but he acts as if he does, nodding his head as grown-ups talk, but he wonders if adults even understand the flow of thoughts at times, or just, like him, want to escape into their own fantasyland for once.

Come to think of it, on this bus trip, he has seen fuming couples as well, the male driving, staring rigidly at the road in front, while the female gazes out of the window, her glare so strong that Ryeowook thinks it can light up a match. He can almost feel the atmosphere within that car, even though he is in a separate vehicle. His mouth turns down at this, the world can indeed do more with simple, unsullied, innocent love, those that exists between children.

Ryeowook stares at his own fingers, mentally counting the number of couples, and the potential break-ups. He stares sullenly at his palm as he realizes he has more broken couples than couples whom he think can last for a long while, and possibly marry. Shaking his head furiously, he quickly does some changes to his hands, plastering a satisfied smile on his face when he transfers all the broken ones to the other side.

He thinks it is unfair to write them off before they can start, or reconcile. There's no naivety in this, although some may think he is just plain childish, like a spoilt brat throwing a tantrum. But he thinks the world needs to be less complex, less convoluted, not like how it is now. Not like all these intricate thoughts that are running through his mind now, as he pouts at the ground.

Growing up is a weird thing; children want to grow up as quickly as possible to attain adulthood, as if it is a godly status, but he, on the other hand, just wants to remain as a child forever, unblemished and untainted by this cruel society, forever shielded and protected by someone in front of him, aiding him, and taking care of him.

He wonders when his thoughts start to become a little melancholic, and the sides of his mouth turn down as he places the blame on himself. He refuses to push the blame around to other factors, which is what sometimes adults do, because they have seen this world so much that they are afraid of getting hurt in this world again, and thus opt for someone else getting hurt again. And this vicious cycle continues.

His thought processes cut off immediately as he feels someone place his chin gently on his shoulder, wrapping his arm around his waist and pulling him just this closer towards the other guy. He feels the warmth radiating off Yesung and it comforts him, for some reason.

Yesung whispers a soft 'What are you thinking?' and his mind goes blank, just like that, as if it's magic, and he feels a smile come onto his face, as this just reminds him so much of his childhood days, where everything is carefree, and he has no responsibility at all, not a single care in the world, and just spinning, spinning and spinning in that vast, wide, green field in his own mind.

At least Yesung will always be there to remind him of his true self when he grows up.

At least Yesung will be there to protect him when he needs someone there.

At least Yesung will be there, beside him, whispering words into his ear when he needs them so much, till forever.

He smiles back at Yesung, knowing that whatever happens, at least there will be Yewook, till eternity. (Or he makes sure there will be.)
