Just beautiful! Love the walk observations, the speed of the car, and Gwen's observations are lovely. The idea that both Jack and Ianto try to one up each other on Christmas gifts, and manage to turn it into nearly Bond proportions of subterfuge is lovely. Brilliant!
"So, do you expect me to tell you where the presents are, Mr Jones?" "No, I expect you to pig out on the mince pies, Captain Harkness." This!! Please say the plot bunny nibbled!
It's the little details that make really memorable fic for me, and this one was just packed with it. Also, any excuse to watch them walk helps! ;)
This is a wonderful Gwen. Her interactions with both the guys are just exactly what should have been if someone had actually cared about the characters... friendly with just enough tension... and the idea of present upsmanship is gorgeous.
It occurred to me that since I was now metaphorically giving RTD the finger (and would do it in person if I ever got to meet the you-know-what), I don't really have to adhere to his superGwen and that means I can make her likeable.
I do seriously enjoy the idea of present-oneupmanship and those two would be experts at the sport.

I loved putting in all the little bits about the walk because, srsly, Jack walks as fast as I would run, I think! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
