Back in the states I often visited my ex-Soviet friends and took a few of our common behaviours for granted. Even if it was a gathering of men who had known each other for a while and owed each other no favors, anyone in the proximity of the sink would automatically wash the dishes when they became necessary. so I have this idea to drive around South America (Argentina, Bolivia and south of Brazil). Since I fly into BA, I'd need to buy that car there (and eventually sell it, too). Any idea if it's possible and has been done before?

Sure. Do you already have an International driver's license? You can get one at AAA, or a similar club. Looks relatively official and has a section in Spanish. Supposedly regognized by Argentina.

But do you know if that's smth foreighners do - buy cars for a short period? Like in Australia and NZ there's a good resell market among "backpackers" for cars, in India there's smth similar for motorcycles. It's easy to register them in your name and stuff. I wonder if folks do that in Argentina...
