saunturing_down Summary; Crowley gets up at one point during the night due to restlessness and goes to check on Nill, who is having a nightmare thanks to Cori. And if anyone finds out about this, they're dead on the spot unless they're Aziraphale.
Log;
Dreaming, dreaming. It was nice, and peaceful. Nill treasured the time she slept. It was already hard enough to fall asleep, since tummy sleeping was just a tad bit uncomfortable. Nill had gotten used to the position of course, but it doesn't mean that it was comfortable.
At the moment, she dreamed of nothing, darkness. The darkness...she hated it. There was so much that could be hidden in that pitch black. In the labs, the lights had been either dim, or bright. And when it was dim, that was when she was in the holding cells...all alone. There was the constant dripping of an uncovered pipe from the ceiling. Drip. Drip. It went. Drip. Drip. Drip. And it'd keep going on that way. How many drips until the coat man comes through the door? How many drips until the next scream from outside is heard? How many drips until she went insane?
Everywhere seemed so dark, only one dreary lightbulb hanging overhead to fight the evils away. Footsteps. Oh no....ohnoohnononononono. I don't want to be here, I don't like this place. I hate it. Don't take me away.
Nill's lips pursed in her dreams, her hands tightening on the sheet. The nightmares were back~
Crowley hadn’t been sleeping so well as of late. It attributed to many things; the City, the Four Horsemen, now all gathered, the result of the curse day a week ago... He scowled and gently disentangled himself from the sleeping angel, slithering off the bed with the grace of a snake. He’d just go and check on Nill, and settle back down. He needed something to do, anyway. He opened the door to his and Az’s room before stepping out into the living room, crossing to the guest room, which had more recently been almost turned into Nill’s own room. The demon gently turned the doorknob and pushed the door open, stepping inside, eyes quickly adjusting to the darkness.
The footsteps stopped in front of her door. She could see someone's shadow outlined in the door's small square window. Her ears picked up the sound of the stranger's hand grasping the knob. The being turned the knob slowly, ever so slowly. It seemed like it'd take forever for the people to open the door.
The door finally opened, the bright light filtered into the hold, and the girl did what she had tried each time. Nill ran. Run for the light, past the scientists, down the hallway. She had it all mapped out in her mind, but it was the same as before. These things never went as planned. How many failed attempts have there been up until now?
She couldn't even make it out the door.
A hand shot out from the darkness. Another one?! Another scientist. Nill whimpered, "No...please...no..." The rough hands grabbed her, dragged her off. No...no...no...NO!
Not there...not the table...not that room...She didn't want to go there...It was the screaming room...The one where all the others were dragged into...where everything was...all the horrors...She'd been in there often...tested things on her...Nill shuddered, no more....no more...I don't want to be here...The girl was unable to call out... who was there to help her? Mommy...Daddy...? She couldn't even remember them...did she even have parents...?
The girl was thrown on a cold, sterile table. Bright surgery lights turned on above her. Nill threw her hands up, hoping to block out the blinding light but her hands were pulled away. They were trying to turn her...her back towards the ceiling...No...no...no...Nill cried. DON'T!
The "angel" jerked to the side, clutching the sheets tightly, as if trying to hide something, her body shaking slightly, completely enraptured in her memory's replay.
Crowley had expected the kid to be sleeping peacefully, as she had the other couple of times he had checked on her, but was surprised to find her clutching at the sheets and moving in her sleep. He sniffed, catching quickly onto the smell of fear. He flicked on the lights before he moved over to the bed, sitting down on the edge and reaching out a hand to shake her gently. “Nill?”
She felt her hands being trapped, her feet being bound. There were the sounds of utensils being moved off of metal trays, the rustle of the scientists' aprons. No...no...no...Tears slowly trickled down her face. No, I hate this place. I don't want to be here. Somebody...anybody...save me...God...? Please...Any...one...Her begging left unheard, A severe stab of pain came from her back. Nill tried to lift her head to scream, but her head was pushed back down. Her cry, muffled, suffocated. She choked on her sobs, her thoughts blinded by never ending pain. No hope, pain, pain, pain.
The girl curled up tighter in her protective ball, the gentle nudge was left unfelt. Nill's breathing grew pained, her wings retracted slowly, but tightly in hopes of blocking out the onslaught of pain that invaded her dreams.
The frown on Crowley’s brow deepened as Nill curled tighter and her breathing increased to a frightening rate. The demon gritted his teeth and shook her more roughly this time. “Nill! Wake up!” It was a growled command; something was not right.
Blood dripped down her back, Nill could feel it, but that was a small matter compared to the throbbing pain on her back. She felt something being pressed onto the cuts, no...into her back...Nill's body jerked once more, a cry escaping once more, and then she was shoved heavily back down onto the table. No...no...no...no more...She plead reached deaf ears. They went deeper, to her bones, readjusted her nerve-endings to react with whatever they added to her. It hurt. It was an indescribable pain, the pain seemed to exist like a living being in her mind.
The girl jerked slightly in response to the familiar response, but remained in her trance, she clutched at her throat, her nonexistent voice was sore, from calling out.
Crowley gently drew the shivering girl into his arms, pulling her close against his chest. “Nill! Dammit, kid, wake up!” The words were hissed, and for once, Crowley would have to admit that he was worried. She didn’t seem to be able to wake up from whatever nightmare she was trapped in, and from the way the smell of her fear wrapped around him, it was pretty intense.
Rough hands untied her and forced her into a sitting position. There was blood everywhere...blood....her blood..She looked down and saw that there were bandages around her chest and they were particularly bloodsoaked. Someone, one of them lifted her face. Nill's eyes widened in fright, the look...that look...on the stranger's face...so cruel...empty...then she saw the scalpel held at attention in his hand. The hand made it's way to her throat, ever closer...
Nill's eyes flashed open, her eyes flickered about widely, tears trailed down her cheeks, her body shook heavily. No more...her thoughts whimpered.
“Shhh, shhh, Nill, it’s alright, alright...” the demon murmured quietly, rocking the girl gently as wiped away her tears with a gentleness that surprised even himself. “You’re safe, Nill, don’t worry kiddo, you’re safe...I won’t let them harm you...” Stroking a soothing hand along the girl’s back, he rested his chin on the crown of her head, heating his body up slightly to provide warmth against her shivering.
The girl looked about, extremely frightened, but she soon settled down a bit when she finally registered Crowley as not being someone from her dreams. The tears would stop fallling, she cried softly, choking on her sobs. Mister Crowley...Mister Crowley...don't leave me alone...Heine...Heine...Heine...
Unfortuneatly, the demon had no idea what Nill was saying, as she had no voice, but he continued to comfort her, holding her close. “Shhh, it’s okay, kiddo. You’re safe now. I’ll protect you; you’ll be just fine.” He gently wiped her tears away again, ducking his head a bit to look her in the face. “Did you have a nightmare?” Obvious question with a duh answer, but if he could get her at least signing to him, it would be progress.
Nill nodded slighlty, her eyes seeing and unseeing. The nightmare replayed in her mind...it was so vivid...so real...She let out a whimper.
Crowley took the girl’s chin gently in his hand, tilting her head to look him in the eye. “Nill, look at me, okay kid? It was a nightmare...it’s not real. No one can hurt you now; I’ll protect you. I promise. It’s just a dream, kiddo.”
The girl's gaze focused on Crowley, finally seeing. She nodded shakingly, the girl signed messily, her hands unable to keep still, "Don't...don't let them get me..."
The demon swallowed harshly as Nill shakily signed to him, and he forced down the instinct to go out and kick the ass of whomever had hurt her. Instead he stated in a serious tone: “They won’t get you, Nill. I’ll protect you; I swear. They won’t ever get near you again. Never. I promise.”
Tucking in her knees, Nill nodded, her face still pale from her bout with her nightmare. Mister Crowley wouldn't let them com near her...she would be safe...Heine was here too...Heine...The girl buried her face in her hands...She didn't want to sleep anymore.
Crowley cradled Nill close, resting his cheek against her forehead. “You probably don’t wanna go back to sleep, huh?” he asked, gently. “Do you want to cook something? Or we could read? Or see what’s on the tv...?” He didn’t need to sleep, after all, and it was clear that sleep was something the girl would not be doing any time soon. Never in millions of years would he had ever thought he’d be sitting on a bed, comforting a girl who had had a nightmare, but then...the City had a strange way of doing this stuff to you, he supposed. He would dwell on it later, if he felt the need. For now, he just turned his attention back to Nill.
Nill looked down and signed that she really know what to do. She didn't know what she wanted to do...for now...maybe she could stay this way? It was kind of...comforting...
Crowley watched as Nill signed her answer before he nodded, drawing her closer to him. “Sure kid. We can stay this way as long as you like.”
