Another flat

Apr 16, 2009 10:13

I had another flat tire last night, which was a minor nuisance. Evidently someone else's car had a major blowout ahead of me and I hit a bit of resulting road shrapnel on the on-ramp to the highway. I am, at this point, quite familiar with the whum-whum-whum sound of a tire going flat, I pulled over and had a look, but all of the tires still looked ( Read more... )

You tighten them a little at a time, in a star pattern. Tighten one lugnut a bit, move to the lugnut opposite it, tighten that a little, move opposite (should be adjacent to the original now), tighten it a little, so on, round and round, tightening them up a bit more each time, until they're all locked on.

This makes sure that your tire is on evenly, rather than crooked, which causes problems.

I had a flat last night too, but no rain. My sympathies and congrats on handling it so well.

Thanks. I hope yours was not a source of much distress.

At this point, flat tires don't bother me much, so I figure I'm taking some flats on behalf of people who would find it more distressing. But yeah, better juju would be a good thing.

Get a length of pipe that just fits over the end of the lug-wrench, 2-3' long, and keep it in your trunk. Mechanical advantage ftw!

* With the right mechanical equipment I shouldn't need anyone else, right? *snicker*

Bwahahaha*cough*

oh, good tip, thank you! Also, glad to amuse.

Meh, I find Dresden Dolls fairly irritating, but to each their own.

DD aren't generally my thing either--they're all right, but I wouldn't pay to pick up an album--but that particular song seemed appropriate. :)

I've found a cross-wrench. Think big wrench shaped like an X with a fitting on each end for a different size lug nut to be a trunk staple for a lot of my motoring years. The 'arms' of the cross wrench are generally longer than the std auto jack tool, so you can get a bit more leverage too ( ... )
