For those of you who put Great Big Sea in for music, you should note that the guys in A Crowd of Bold Sharemen appear repeatedly in the GBS liner notes as the sources of songs... ;)

Catch them on the right day, and you can get a desktop Tesla coil from American Science and Surplus for under $200. I guess that's a bonus recommendation. You can also get rubber centipedes, test tubes, clock innards, time on a telescope, odd-shaped boxes, etc. For very broad definitions of "etc."

At some point, it would be interesting to put 50 random people in front of the AS&S catalog, and find out how they all complete the sentence: "OMG, they have... !"

You know about Archie McPhee, right? Not nearly as practical as AS&S, but just as much fun.

(My dad got both catalogs when I was a kid, so I tend to associate the two.)
