John Gorka and Susan Werner concert

Jun 09, 2007 00:19

I am home from a concert in Annapolis. I went to See John Gorka perform at the Ram's Head Tavern, and stayed to see the other act, Susan Werner. It's late, I have to be up at a reasonable hour tomorrow, so this is just going to be a short series of lists ( Read more... )

I love the bit you wrote about the guys at your table. You really hit the nail on the head. And WTF? Insulting you because you, oh gasp of feigned shame, READ, is just almost too much to bear.

I'm sure they thought they were friendly and charming. I thought they were loud, rude, and abrasive.

Yeah, the way they said "reader" didn't make it sounds like it was a compliment on their part. One made some crack, when I continued to mind my own damned business, that maybe he should have brought a paper. I wish he had.

But the performances were excellent, funny, charming, and great. I know the words to all of John Gorka's songs, and the other artist was good to follow as well.

Well I'm glad you had a good time despite the neaderthals. ;)

Yeah. They were trying (as an old boss of mine would say 'yes, they were *extremely* trying') to be friendly, but very much on-their-terms friendly. Like when they got a bottle of wine for their table and I'd already moved my seat away from them (one of them kept kicking me under the table by accident, because god forbid they be polite about where they put their feet), they old the waiter in hearty terms to bring a glass for me too.

Which I then told the waiter to disregard, as I'd take care of myself well enough, thank you.

Oddly enough, there's only one song of John Gorka's that I really don't like, and that was, of course, the one song they kept yelling requests for (and got the title wrong).

Later in the evening I chased someone out of the room who was walking on his cell phone. He'd moved to near the doors but was still voluble enough that other patrons were turning to stare at him. I walked over and told him that other people could, in fact, still hear him, so he should take it outside.

I really DID have a lovely time last night and really enjoyed both performances, but it seems I was not at my most tolerant for the evening.

The music was lovely. I've seen Gorka perform enough times now that I'm getting a feel for some of his running gags (shaking the guitar out after each song, doing a sky point during "I'm From New Jersey"). I didn't stick around to say hello to him (I already have all of his albums...) but I feel I'm getting to know him a bit better.

I know the man's music so well it's almost strange to hear it live, in-person, up close.

I hope my addition to your statistic cluster of data was helpful.

Sounds like a great evening.

Especially the part about the warm cupcake and a book. I think I owe myself a date like that!

It was a truly happy-making dessert. Not the greatest nutrition, but good for the heart.
