I don't even know how to describe this feeling

I woke up at Fran and Laura's house today. We had an aweome night last night - Laura gave a 50 minute lecture on WW1, we ate yummy food, we drank cheap wine, and I had a comfy couch on which to sleep. This morning, Fran made waffles. Everything was great, lovely morning, lovely friends. Around 10:30am I went outside to get in my car and go to work ( Read more... )

mark my words: I will never own a car again. tamisevens March 1 2008, 20:48:24 UTC
my thought process was this:

I can't stay here without a car.
I can never face Brian again.
Therefore I need to leave LA.
I'll go back to NY.
Wait, I don't have a job in NY.
What about money?
I won't be able to go to my appoinments next week.
I won't be able to move to Europe.
Everything is ruined.

....

Oh wait. Everything is fine.

....

I CAN NOT HANDLE UPS AND DOWNS LIKE THAT. My heart is still racing.

It's really funny that you thought your car was tan when in fact it was green. And that you walked by it several times and didn't recognize it. Even though it had your stuff in it.

I'm going out to get stupidly drunk to celebrate my bday part 1 and you should be here!

I am, simply put, an idiot.

if Fran didn't save the day by pointing out my car, I very well could have been in NYC tonight. have a great time!

I hate to admit this, because there are so many things I love about Paris, but the thing I miss most, the thing I pine for constantly, and bring up constantly in conversation is the Metro. God I miss it. After two years I can still remember everything about it in near perfect detail.

you could never MISPLACE the metro. I mean, there's a special place in my heart that is actually full of hatred for the Paris metro in the summertime, but it's always there. you don't forget where you put the metro.

I think I may be tempted to kiss the ground in New York City when I land on April 16. oh, to feel the shakey floor of the subway beneath my feet again...

Ex-Car guy's trick rxgreene March 1 2008, 23:24:57 UTC
This happens to me pretty regularly. When you get to where you think you parked the car, start tapping the "lock" button twice. This will chirp the horn, and it is slightly less annoying to the neighbors than you hitting the panic alarm.

yet another reason as to why I am an idiot, and should not own a car -

I didn't even try the little thing on my keychain that makes the alarm go off (these kids with their cars and their fancy keychains that make noises, back in my day we had to use the key!). I totally forgot that was even an option. dude, the last car I owned was a 1991 plymouth sundance (back in 2002), which I thought was very swanky indeed with its working tape player.

I also still forget that everyone seems to have automatic locks and I don't have to wait for someone to unlock the passenger door for me, because that was done with the push of a button before you even GET to the car! wild!

the time that me and nocoins borrowed olivetti's car, attmepting to use the CD player took us about 20 minutes. With "my car," the infiniti, I only just started changing the radio stations and learning how to use pre-set buttons sometime this past week (due to the pledge drive banter on NPR).

Basically... I miss my bicycle.

With my first new car - '97 Subaru Outback Sport - I had it for four months before I realized it had pull out cup holders mounted in the dash.

Unfortunately I made the discovery with three friends in the car and I _still_ hear about it.

I should probably mention that I did this once.

Left a party at 3 am, having arrived there at eight (when it was still light out). Unfortunately, I had never before parked my car under sodium lamps, so my gold Audi 5000s had turned white on me. Took me three tours of the parking lot before I looked at the license plate of that weird white Audi that was parked where I'd parked earlier ...

ha! did you think it had been stolen, or were you convinced the entire time it was just simply... misplaced?

Oh, I totally thought it had been stolen. I erupted into the night with an unbroken chain of F-word after F-word ...

WOO HOO! A great story.....hilarious.

Hopefully now you will remember the car is green.

I did this once.....my first car was a blue hatchback Hyundai.....and years later I bought a beige/brown hatchback Hyundai (perfect for sleeping in on roadtrips for two) and I would always lose my second car thinking I was looking for my blue one. Still, both cars are blue to me in my head.....even though one was in Canada and the other Australia....doesn't make a difference unless I see photos. Oh well. I totally relate.

I love that I'm not the only one who has done this type of thing before.

the car I had in college was this wonderful little piece of shit ford escort hatchback ... it cost me $400 (which is only about 5 euros or so, right?). I loooove hatchbacks, and that one was particularly great because the hatch was white and the rest of the car was red, which was also totally my fault. but that's a whole other story...
