My Fellow Americans

Do you ever find yourself somewhere where you don't quite fit in, and you think "man, who ARE these people? where did they come from that I feel so out of place?" I feel that way at my job every so often. If I was sitting in a sports bar, I'd probably feel that way. I'm sure everyone gets that feeling sometimes ( Read more... )

I feel the exact same way. It makes me nauseous. It's mostly because some people like to form opinions based on blatent lies. Overheard in a bar: "I'm voting for Bush because I want free healthcare." WHAAA???

Yeah! I overheard someone on the subway saying - "Well I'm glad he won cause I don't belive in Gay marriage" neither did Kerry. He just didn't want a constitutional amendment. Man.

I feel your pain. Here's what I think.

The majority of Americans ARE good. And the idea that the president would knowingly lie to us in order to bring us into a war to fit a pre-911 agenda is too much for them (us) to swallow. They (we) want to believe we're safer today than yesterday, we want to believe the president can fix what's broken, we want to believe that his biggest concern is our safety. Plus, you know, the president is all moral and stuff.

I've been trying to get a handle on my feelings about this election for a while now. I can't possibly sum it up as well as you have above. Well done. Now I think we need to find a way to deal with our disgust and anger. I'm open to suggestions.

I tried to write in my journal about 700 times today, but I can't find the words. What happened?

OH MY GOD do I hear that. I look at that update journal box and then it's like that scene in Brain Candy, where Bruce McCulloch as PseudoDanzig steps up to the mic, you think he's gonna sing, and he just grunts & pushes it away, too depressed to say anything.

Except, y'know, not funny.

I hate the idea that America's full of people who are for oppression. I've been believing that it's just people who are susceptible to marketing, to the way Bush's people made him look good. I don't know. I refuse to believe that a political conversation with more than half of the people in this country would end with me exasperated and walking away to avoid yelling at 'em. Christ.
