Aw yeah

So if anyone from here could see me doing yoga, you'd probably have to stifle laughter. I'm stiff and clunky and have to push myself into all sorts of positions that you're supposed to "flow" into. Moving from upward dog to downward dog usually involves getting onto hands and knees first, then repositioning my hands, *then* getting into an awkward ( Read more... )

Go you! I'm back in the exercise room too; up to 155 pounds as of this AM.

I was told last week to work on my triceps too. The first round I tried at home was using 5 pound weights - that didn't work out too well. (Muscle cramps were crampy.) So I did multiple little sets of tricep extenstions per day using cans and bottles, then 2.5lb weights... tonight I'm going to try 5lb-ers again. Maybe not 10 reps, but even five reps will be good to continue building. After all, 2.5 x 10 = 5 x 5. ;)

My body seems to remain relatively plastic for a forty-year-old - it doesn't seem to take long for old muscle tissue to strengthen and new muscle tissue to build in. Hopefully I can build into that 160, and then 165, pound weight that I think would be good on me. :)

That makes me feel better, makes me think that probably weak triceps are nothing unusual and I'm not some horribly pathetic specimen or anything. :) I have 8-lb hand weights for use at home, and also 3-lb hand weights; I should try doing tricep extensions at home with the 3-lbs. Although maybe I shouldn't, since I keep reading that one shouldn't overtrain and it's essential to have days off. It's hard though, because common sense says the more you work out, the quicker you'll get stronger. But apparently bodies don't work that way. o_O

Woohoo, you and I can keep each other inspired. :D

I think that for most people the tricep is the weaker muscle - maybe not for professional muscleheads, but we're not them.

I agree that it's good to take time off, but there's a difference between exercise and EXERCISE. I typically don't do more than one serious set of any exercise in one training session, and I definitely rest a day or two between sessions. OTOH, moving your body counts as exercise, and we do that every hour of every day! I don't feel like doing a set or two of tricep extensions using a lighter weight with hours of rest between sets on my "days off" will hurt me - and if I feel it does, I'll definitely stop. :-)

For me, I try to do what feels good and right. If it feels good and right to exercise a little more on off days, I try it and see; if it feels good and right to stop, then I don't. If I need to skip a day or two, that's okay too.

Let's definitely mutually inspire. Virtual workout buddies!!!11! ;)
