Finally!

So I hadn't been to the gym in almost a week due to various life and holiday stuff, and by today I was ITCHING to get back in the gym. I was afraid that I would have lost any of the progress I'd made over the first few weeks, but well, if that had happened then it was time to start rebuilding ( Read more... )

Hey, I for one love these entries! When I first went into weight training, I honestly believed I would hate it and never see it as anything more than a means to an end, but who'd've guessed, I actually got excited about it and was impatient for each new session. It's fun, it really is!

Good on ya for kicking ass and taking names! It's so awesome that you not only didn't lose any progress but actually had to increase weight. FWIW, my understanding is that it's recommended to take a periodic break from weights--as in, at least one but no more than two weeks after every three months of continuous work. Supposedly you start to lose strength gains after two weeks of non-activity, but though I've read that in various places I can't vouch for its accuracy.

I'm totally rocking these posts, and you've inspired me to look into yoga classes when I get back to the Rockies.

I've been seeing it as a means to an end too, but some enjoyment does seem to be creeping in. :) And it's satisfying to see improvement!

After class today, my teacher said that if you're away for two weeks or so then you'll lose gains, although you'll pick it up again quickly due to muscle memory and stuff. But five days away or a week isn't going to do anything.

Yay, yoga! It's been kicking my butt too, but it's fun. I'm glad you're going to look into it. :)

Not so - I'm always happy to share someone's pleasures and successes in the gym. Just be very aware of your tendons; they grow very slowly - much more slowly than your muscles - and a tendon injury will set you back weeks. Let me know if that happens - I've become very good at healing as I've gotten older.
