I'm going to have to see if there's something like that for the Mac version of Firefox. I do have Adblock on our PC, but 90% of the time now I'm using our Macbook to check my eljay.

This would be why I have a paid membership, and have had for a long time. Initially it was to ward off the possibility of them having to start putting ads on LJ, but since not enough people bought paid memberships to stop that from happening, now it's to keep me from seeing the ads other people have to put up with ( ... )

Thank you for posting this, as I tend to agree with this viewpoint...

Redirecting commission links was definitely a sketchy moneymaking move on LiveJournal's part, but I can't fault them for having ads for just the reasons you outline.

Like I said, I don't have a problem with the sidebars and other ads. I accept that revenue has to be made somehow (or as I put it above, "you needed some way to pay for yourself"), and ads are one way to do that. But full-sound popup ads that I have no control over, that show up FREQUENTLY and take a long time to "return [me] to [my] LiveJournal experience" (as they put it), are unacceptable. I'm not griping about ads in general, I'm griping about frequent *and* extremely invasive ads that are really detracting from using LJ ( ... )
