Frolic's here to watch the kids in case I had to do a 911 trip, yeah. It's 60 minutes in and I'm still okay, so the risk is quite low now and he just went to bed. But it wouldn't be a big deal for me to wake him up if I started getting hive-y or anything.
I've been planning to do a hospital-lobby DIY challenge for a long time now, but ultimately it came down to me being too scared to go do it on my own. I know it's probable that I *don't* have an allergy, because what I experienced then was probably just the first time I had an asthma attack (I didn't get diagnosed with teh azmahz until last year, but it's probably been developing for awhile). But I also know that it was going to be edge-of-panic hell when doing this DIY challenge, and I really didn't want to be dealing with that all alone in a hospital lobby, no distractions, etc. At least here I'm at home with my TiVo and laptop and Frolic to talk me down and tell me I don't have hives
( ... )
I'm way more nervous about the almonds. What's in Honey Nut Cheerios is actually almonds, not peanuts. I've had to avoid all nuts because there's often cross-allergies between tree nuts and peanuts (which is strange because peanuts are a legume and not much like tree nuts at all on a chemical level, but it is what it is). But there are people who are allergic to tree nuts but fine with peanuts, and vice-versa. So my original problem occurred after eating tree nuts, and I had peanuts tonight with no apparent problems (only 24 more minutes to go!), but that doesn't mean anything other than I'm okay with peanuts. I could still run into issues tomorrow with the tree nuts.
I'm pretty damn disappointed with the Reese's, I'll be honest. Five years I've been missing Reese's, and I finally got to eat one and all I tasted was the sugar. :( But the important thing is: I didn't die! WOOHOO!
FYI Some batches of Reese's PB Cups are better than others... or maybe some are older or something. When they're fresh, and good, they're still awesome. And sometimes, they just suck.
Since peanuts are not technically nuts, would a nut allergy make someone unable to eat peanuts? And would a peanut allergy make someone unable to eat actual nuts?
Yep. Cross-allergies are frequent but certainly not a guarantee. That's why this has to be a challenge both to peanuts and, later, to tree nuts. Not dying last night shows me I'm okay with peanuts, but that doesn't really mean anything other than that I don't have cross-allergies.
Being lazy, I'm just going to repost part of my comment up above to iamnotanoctopus:
