I was feeling uninspired for writing so I spent the evening watching funk videos on youtube. Having done that, I can now say that locking appeals to me a lot more than popping, so locking is what I'll be concentrating on. :) And in a couple years once I've got locking down, I'm totally going to learn krumping because that is some fun-looking ( Read more... )

Here's something to do when you're bored: find you tube videos of good examples of popping, locking, and krumping, and put them up here, cause I can't visualize it at all.

Ooo! Will do tonight. :) They're all fascinating art forms. The most classic example people think of when thinking of popping and locking is somebody doing "the robot", but that's just one of the many subcategories of popping and locking. (Popping and locking is often referred to as "popping and locking" as if they're one dance, but both popping and locking are their own independent styles.) For example, subcategories of popping would be "Air posing, Animation, Boogaloo, Boppin, Bottin, Cobra, Creepin, Dime Stopping, Filmore, Floating/Gliding, Hitting, Popping, Puppet, Robot, Saccin, Scarecrow, Strobing, Struttin, Ticking, Tutting, Waving" - each of those has a distinct look. From what I've seen most people mix multiple subcategories during one dance, but some people specialize in a particular style ( ... )

I don't know the difference between popping and locking, so YouTube examples would be good.

I saw krumping on America's Next Top Model once, and that looked pretty off the hook!
