Absolutely fascinating article in today's Boston Globe...The unsullied traditional Christmas of yesteryear, it turns out, is every bit as manufactured as the bright plastic products we see in the stores.

Interesting. But one of the things that bothers me about these "Christmas wasn't historically a religious holiday" is that they're always focused on England and the American colonies/United States. I want to see someone write about Eastern European Christmas traditions going back centuries! In a language I can understand!

I ordered the book. I've kind of had my New England Holiday image rattled a bit; I always thought it was like the songs, too.
