OMG that's OUR bar!

Of course I'd heard about the guy who was stabbed to death in a "Southie bar" over the weekend, but there are a lot of bars in Southie, and we live on, basically, the outskirts of Southie; let's face it, there are a lot of bars in Southie, many of which I wouldn't go into alone. We're talking old school bars, with almost no windows, the kind that ( Read more... )

Wow, that second piece has some impressively bad writing. It's clear the author has a grudge against the place because of his friend. It doesn't really make sense to hold the sins of the former bar against the new one unless the management is the same, but we're not told about that.

And who the hell calls bars/saloons "buckets of blood" anymore? Is the writer an escapee from the California gold rush or just someone who started drinking during Prohibition?

Ok I don't think you can call the bar "notorious" after only two incidents. It might be "notorious" because of Whitey, but it's not "notorious" because of it's violence. Linehan was stabbed outside a resturant next to the bar - not in the bar. Was the person who stabbed him _at_ the bar? How does that one incident reflect on the bar itself?

There are other bars in Boston that have 2 am last calls ... (in fact, Costello's in JP) and there are no issues there so I don't think it can be solely attributed to that (which is what the news was alluding to this morning).

Turns out, we were in the bar earlier that same evening Linehan was stabbed! They weren't even in the restaurant...they'd gone back to pick up take-out. And they were at a party on the other side of the restaurant, further up Broadway...which happens to be closer to the copshop, so yeah, how's it the bar's fault? They're the ones who called the cops when it happened and they locked the doors so no one could hide out in there...they were telling us, they wouldn't let the customers who were in there out til it was all over.

Interesting...

You know, it's tragic that this happened, but it _really_ annoys me when all the "outrage" and "we have to do something about this!" only happens when white people are stabbed/shot in this city....

Ok I'll stop my ranting :)
