It's the birthday of Rose Wilder Lane, born in 1887 in De Smet, Dakota Territory. She worked for the San Francisco Bulletin as a reporter, an editor, and the author of romance serials. Once, I convinced my mom to recreate some of the dishes (like apples-n-onions!) for a dinner, and it was DELICIOUS.

The LHOTP series was my favorite as a child. My mom read them to me before bed every night for many years: we made it through the whole series several times before I started reading them myself. (Well, really, I only basically read Farmer Boy because I love FOOD.) They certainly remain a favorite, and will forever be with me.
Fun fact: there's a LHOTP site just outside of Independence, KS, which is only about 3 hours from Stillwater. It's very small, and is very awesome.
