I think the non-alien aberrations issue is closely related to the "The Far Realm is the Outer Plane of Aberrations" issue that sprung up towards the end of 3.5 and has been put on steroids and allowed to proliferate in 4th edition.

Far Realm = Outer Plane of Aberrations is a terrible idea. It's just something I can't get behind - 3rd edition did do quite a bit of "explaining" the unknown. I'm still in two minds over whether or not I like the idea of the Alienist PrC. Is that a step too far in terms of "knowability"? I mean, should this stuff be playable - in Lovecraftian tales, such knowledge never ends well. (Didn't they reprint it in Complete Arcane?) Anyway, yeah, that's a pet hate of mine.

Thanks for another reason to stay away from 4E. ;)
