Calcifer was half asleep while they were away, but quickly awakens and perks up, flames flickering up the chimney when they enter. He gobbles up the leaves, making satisfied noices.

"Are they from the flowers you're working on?" he asks, leaning half out of the grate to attempt to see what she's doing.

"No, not yet," Sophie says, and frowns, looking over her row of plants.

"This one's terribly slow to grow. It's only put out two leaves so far - I'm thinking it might turn out to be an orchid of some sort?"

She says it hopefully in the general direction of the flower.

"Pink, at any rate."

Calcifer continues to lean out of the grate, looking at the row of plants himself. He made a frustrated noise when he couldn't get any further away.

"What was the weather like out there? Not raining, I hope." Not that it would matter to him. It's not like he could go out there.

"No - it's a perfectly lovely day."

She sniffs the air, as the smoke from the burning leaves reaches her nose, and then lets out a cackle.

"Though now it smells about the same in here as it does out in the garden!"
